I am laminating red oak and bamboo. Can I use tb2?
-
Use titebond 3 or epoxy. :-)
-
Why? I, ATM, only have tb2. If I could use it that would be awesome
-
what you have will work, heck regular tb will work, bub
-
why ask if it wont change what your gonna use anyways?
-
Ok. We'll see if it works. It is an old bow that delaminated that a friend gave to me to fix. It was one of his first laminate bows and he forgot about it and now doesn't have enough time to fix so I am. I am asking why that over tb2? What characteristics make it better so I can make better judgements later when I'm on another.
-
the only real difference is tb3 is water proof and has a longer working time, how bad is the delam, I've fixed some with runny ca glue
-
One Whole side delaminated all the way to the fade.
-
ive never had any issues with tb2, havent used anything else.
-
i'd separate the whole thing clean it up and reglue it
-
I have cleaned up what has delaminated. You think I should still delaminated the rest of the way?
-
Yes, you can use TBII! ;)
-
If there's delamination with TB glue, it's your fault, not the glue.
-
Your glue isn't going to be the problem, but your wood choices are. The Red oak is going to get over powered by the boo.

Jon,
It was my bowyer friend's first laminated bow from, like, 15 years ago or something like that. He just barely found it in his shed(not the cleanest place ::)) and gave it to me to fix becuz he doesn't have time anymore. I think it is a red oak board but I might be wrong. It is some type of board. Also, following question, how do things really get overpowered and what happens if it is? I am not a laminate guy and don't know much about it because it never intrigued me. I could see something like hickory where it's tensile strength is better than its compression and to get a lower limb weight and have it more even as far as strength and less wood not doing anything. Even if it overpowers couldn't you just trap the back? Doesn't it just make it slower because some extra weight isn't doing anything?

Yes! I can't imagine that one limb will cleanly delaminate, while other is still perfectly bonded. Something has gone wrong during the glue up. No glue should cleanly delaminate if properly applied. If you fix the delaminated limb now, the other limb will quickly fail as well.
Yes, titebond 2 is fine. Make sure to remove all old glue and that both lams are perfectly mating.
