Title: Curlew Longhunters (pic heavy)
Post by: wildman on October 21, 2013, 12:38:43 am
Ky muzzleloader season we had primitive camp/hunt on my farm. We had great time and managed to harvest a flintlock deer.

Look like loads of fun. Wish we could camp like that down here without the mosquitos carrying us away.

Did you ever know a Shawnee Indian named Opah from Georgetown, KY?  He used to do the Blue Lick reenactment, died about 10 years ago.  Used to trek in Red River Gorge a lot.  Just wondering, looks like a good time, nice shot on the deer! dpg

Linen, fustian, wool, braintan and felt. Nary a lick of scentlock Gore-tex or neoprene whatsis.  I'd feel right at home in that camp.

Copper kettles and tin cups, horn spoons and the back of a knife.  Dinner seasoned with a bit of salt and woodsmoke.  My appetite would feel right at home, too.

Hard ground, a rock in my lumbar region, another under my hip, and a slight drip from my canvas diamond fly tent leaking down the back of my neck.  Yup, it's a homey kinda place.

Linen patch, last year's deer fat for lube, roundball with the sprue sticking up, and a new rock in the lock. Perty Girl's stock is fixed and the lock is tuned, she's ready for camp too.

This thread lit a fire under my keister.  I am making camp this weekend.  If all goes well I will post my own thread instead of hijacking one from these fine fellows.

JW, my lil camp is less than a mile from the house. We are planning on building a half face shelter soon.
