This is the bow that was giving me a headache with the strings, ;D, ( it is still measuring 75" from nock to nock, and the string is only 72 3/4", so I have no idea why I have a string 2 1/4" shorter than my ntn length, but oh well. ) She pulls 50# @ 28", probably 55 to 60 around 30" - 31", something around there. Also holds 2" reflex right after being unstrung, maybe a bit more after sitting for a bit. I did a horn inlay strike plate on both sides, I think it was probably a bit oversized, lol. The nocks are kudo horn tips from Israel by the way.
EDIT: I forgot, it's also got a bit of a positive tiller, maybe this may play a part in my string confusion...

They are pretty transparent in a good light, you can see the cone of wood they are glued too:

Very nice Sir!
-
Nice, clean and stylish.
Great tiller.
I like the nocks.
If I was going to be really picky I'd say you could radius the corners of the back a tad, maybe even radius the back itself just a hint so it doesn't look like a dead flat lam....
Hope you don't mind the comment.

Don't mind at all, I appreciate the advice! ;D That is one thing I don't like about laminates also. Next time I will take your advice and try to give the back a bit of a crown. That's one thing you at least rarely have to do on a stave bow, :).
you look like you gonna kill someone lol
I know, haha. Really it is my wife that wants to kill me, after like 20 tries at taking a picture where I am not making a weird face. :)
Thanks yall, :). It took me a while to get a piece of ERC that didn't wanna explode on me. It is like finding a needle in a haystack trying to find a piece without knots.
-
Your finish work is amazing. Great job on yet another. Keep em coming :)
-
What a beauty. Those white nocks are really something. Nice job fitting them.
-
Awesome work man, I really like the contrast between back and belly, and those tips...classy :)
-
That is sweet. 2" of reflex and I bet it is nice and light. Should pull smooth and hit hard!
-
Even though you glued it up, I really like this one. Very good looking bow.
-
Nailed the tiller! Great job. Tips are ridiculous beautiful bro. Keep up the good work. Oh yeah, i heard Ohio State is offering a class: mysteries of bow strings 101 ;D :o >:D ;)

I wish, I'd take it, ;D.

That is simply drop dead gorgeous!!!!!! >:D
-
Those tips are simply beautiful!
-
Well done knots!!!
-
nice bow knots, you did that wood proud.
-
Very nicely done. Your tip transitions are perfect, and your tiller on ELBs is always excellent. I am with Del, however... I would round the back off much more if that bow was mine.
-
Fantastic ERC. Isn't that great wood?? It's become my favorite. Love it.
-
Nice.
:)
If you draw a series of parallel lines an 1/8th apart that follow the backs edges all the way to the tips where they converge it gives you a great aid when crowning a hickory backing. Obviously if you have any diviation from straight with the crown you can get a bit of twist showing up. When you try it crown the back more than you think is right - it looks really good on elbs. :)
-
Mike, could you explain that, I am just starting on an Elb and that sounds interesting. Not sure if I am understanding it right?
-
Nice bow knots, nice bow.

I simply use a compass and draw a facet line on the back edge, usually about 1/8" to 1/4" depending on how round I want it. I knock the square edge off down to the facet line, and then sand it round.
-
I've actually never knew it was typical to crown a laminate bow. (shows how many I've made, :) ) The most I've ever did is round the edges. Next time I will give it a try, I guess the square look isn't too great really now that you guys mention it, :).\

I follow you now, been doing that by eye but a line makes good sense.
-
Very nice sir!
-
sweet as always tmk, bub
-
Badger - basically just facet lines but only 1/8th apart and 2 or 3 per side. If you mark them accurately it makes it next to impossible to deviate from straight as they all converge at different points.
-
Very nice bow, tiller looks great and tip are awesome. Nice !!!

Love those nocks! Nice bow.
-
First, that is a beautiful bow! Second, what finish did you use on the maple and what is it backed with? How long did it take you? Beautiful job!

It didn't take me too long. I cut the pieces out pretty close to dimension before I glue up (which allows me to glue in even relfex easily). So most of the work is done with my bandsaw. This bow had a pretty bad twist, which I thought doomed it at first. But by removing enough wood on the stronger side, it came around. The finish is a light tru oil, really should of did more coats but I ran out. And thank you!
-
That's a very nice looking bow TMK.
-
Elegant well crafted bow there.Really looks like a sweet shooter for sure.I like it.
-
Your ELB's are always a thing of beauty, but this one is by far my favorite! Absolutely beautiful and your tiller is perfect as always! Josh
-
That is a fine looking bow and those white horn nocks are very cool.
Nicely done Sir..!
