Title: Some recent leather work.
Post by: dwardo on October 11, 2013, 07:19:26 am
Ayup all,

I dont really venture out of the bows section but thought I would post some of the other things i do to while away the time. Not sure if this is the right part but feel free to move or remove it mods. Especially when the elbow plays up and the heavy tools stuff is out of bounds.

Few bits of leather work I have finished over the pas few weeks.

New sheath for a blade I handled recently

Nice work!
Really like the first one, personally i have problems with the button type sheats...i tend to get caught up in twigs or my clothes or something like that and open them on accident. But top shelf stuff regardless.

Looks like solid work, no question. Do you hand stitch or use a machine?

Thanks. All hand stitched. Sometimes for the thicker welts I use a pillar drill then stitch.

Agree. Looks like a long-laster. Keep it conditioned well and I believe that will last a couple of generations.
Heavy-duty work. dang god job.

God Bless

My little hatchet was in need of a new getup for a trip out a few weeks back. Dont usually take the hatchet as its a little small but I had a bunch of other tools to carry so the smaller weight was welcome.
It fits on the belt and the axe drops in from the top. This stops me putting the sheath down and losing it,.,,again..

nice leatherwork dwardo, nice edge skiving,
and great harness stitching. use two blunt needles?
what do you use to wax and seal the edges? really looks great

Yes mate, just saddle stitched, funny how over a big pond all the terms change :)
The thicker welts are sanded flat then I dye and finish with carnuba edge cream. Then a coat of clear wax over it all. I just use dubbin.
