Title: Which arrowhead for hunting?
Post by: LEGIONNAIRE on September 27, 2013, 03:02:45 am
Howdy folks. Ill be going hunting soon and I was just wondering, which arrowhead design would you consider most efficient for penetrating deer? I would appreciate your input so I can decide what I need to mount on the heads as I want some good penetration.
On the one hand Im thinking the curved heads help with slicing, but does this matter once the arrow spins?
Im asking about all of these not just the circled ones. thank you

Cesar

X2 and I also like number 4, if you can sharpen it up a tad.

Those profiles will work fine for all. I prefer and make ones that are more pointed and less wide shouldered. Cahokia style is one that has a good length to width ratio 3:1 roughly.

So that means that the straight edge is better for penetration purposes right?
Thanks for all the feedback guys :)

Size does not matter. As long as its pointy and sharp, and the shot is in the kill zone. That's all that matters.
They all look like they should get the job done:)

I prefer narrow - long heads myself. The 3:1 ratio is a proven killer. But as said, they will all work if they get put in the right spot.

The 3:1 ratio is what Howard Hill liked, and he killed plenty of deer with them.  I do believe that all will kill a deer, so I choose them for aesthetics and I like the rounded ones.  The ones which look like a bear/ace, the two in the upper left and two on the lower right.  Mind you, I said aesthetics.

  Diffently the one circled.

  I'm a HOWARD HILL fan.

I've always made my points with the 3 to 1 ratio.
