This one I can not lay claim to gluing up....it exchanged hands a few times before it fell into my hands...how many times I do not know? This year at the Tennessee Classic a guy was walking around with this blank he bought off of James Parker the previous year at the classic...I remember the year before seeing a Marc St. Louis blank on his vendors table, and I think this was the one the guy had bought?...where James got it I don't know? ??? Any way this gentleman had never made or tillered a bow and was looking to pay someone to tiller/finish it out for him,and for some reason a few guys all pointed him to my direction(don't know why) ::) ...the guy just wanted a natural materials bow,so I got to thinking and struck up a deal with him and traded away my hunting bow from last year :-\ ...but it was a fair trade id say in the end ;D I finished this one up a few weeks ago,and was gonna put a leather grip on ,but decided nah... its 62"...57@27"...bacote tips(I did glue those on)...theres cherry, another piece of osage, and a whitewood lam in the handle...and of course I shaped the handle to my liking....and it thumps a nice arra 8)

-
Thanks guys...Bruce sent ya a pm back....funny you ask matt...next week bro, after I come back from my weekend adventure..just finished up a self bow last weekend ,n put the last coat of oil on today...and it has ties to the Tennessee Classic too ;)
-
Great hunting specs, length and draw weight, and the tiller is outstanding. You gotta get out there and tag a deer with that bow Chris. Oh the finish is real nice also, sweet bow all around.
-
[Can't wait to see it Chris
-
That thing must really shoot hard if ya have to stack up tree targets befor you shoot it >:D
Knapper
-
That has a nice bend to it.
DBar
-
Very nice Chris, love the profile.
Jon
-
Nice bow and nice baby face ;D What happened to the beard?
-
I like how you finished that out. And your right about deciding against a leather grip. There's no purpose for such pretty variation in lams in a non-bending handle other than to be shown off.
It's funny because today I decided to pull off a rather ugly handle job I'd done on a red-oak longbow. It was just wrapped and glued heavy hemp twine. But beneath was rawhide I don't even remember putting on. Then beneath that the handle lams were red-mulberry, maple and then cherry. I thought "now why did I cover all that up"? Then noticed the uneven glue lines. :-D
You did that glue up justice.
-
That has to be one of the nicest I have seen. Excellent job finishing that bow.
-
That is one sweet fine looking bow Chris. From every view. You did all of the previous handlers of that piece justice.
-
Thanks guys for the replies... :D
Well Clint...if ya can't see from the pics it looks like I shaved ;)
Yeah thimo i have a hard time covering up laminate handles...you prob put the rawhide and hemp wrap on for strength thinking your glue lines were too shabby to hold up...or just to hide them too ;)
-
Blackhawk they needed hiding. :-D Not quite Medusa's face but ugly enough.
-
You did an excellent job tillering that one out.
Can't say I remember that blank but it sure looks like one of mine
-
Trade ya' that one.
-
Lol thimo
Marc the osage was pretty darkened when I got it,and it must've been glued up at least 4 years ago and maybe more? But yeah this has your signature all over it...I don't know anyone else that has your signature ;) :D plus James had em marked as your blank
Hmmm? OK pearly...recurve for recurve? You know what I want ;) can your gunships handle the weight ??? :P
-
Another beauty. Love the profiles and the finish.
-
Hmmm? OK pearly...recurve for recurve? You know what I want ;) can your gunships handle the weight ??? :P

-
Thanks guys :)
Lol...OK Mr gunships

Chris, you're really, really starting to scare me. First a RO Board bow, then a lam, and now you're just finishing someone else's blank. I'm half afraid I'll be seeing you post a PVC bow next. haha Great job bother.
"Bluegrass Hole" (it's the name of a bow, guys. sheesh) and I are getting pretty familiar with each other. We've seen 5 deer together so far. The closest 2 at 25 yards, the other 4 at 40 yards. I do hunt with my little HBO when I hunt in a blind, though. Come to think of it, the only hunt I didn't see a deer was when I wasn't carrying "Bluegrass Hole."
Schuy and I are joining Brian and his wife at their cabin this weekend. Hopefully, a deer will get a little closer.
-
bad deal! I would not trade that beautiful bow for a bunch of glued up boards. just kidding nice work on that one Chris
-
DUDE!!!!!! WHERES THE BEARD!!!!!!!!

I think that trade might go down in the in the record books. And YES who knows, Blackhawk my soon be saying something like...............................................Hickory is King! :P ;) :)

Chris.............you caught me......... I must have been out of my mind to say something like that. ;) :) :)
-
Hi Blackhawk, I read through the thread but didn't see the width of the limbs or handle. Can you provide those measurements? Thanks!
-
Sure Eric...Im gone from home now and won't be back till Sunday eve..so i wont be able to give exact measurements until I get back...either sun eve or Monday morn ilk post them up here for ya...and I cant remember them off the top of my head....
-
Sounds great. Thanks!
-
Boy,Chris you almost beat me to it. I've had it in mind to build that style of bow but with larger recurves. Great job on yours.....the part that you did. If it blows up you have a valid excuse now!
and dude, decide wether you want facial hair or not, its throwing us all off! ;D
-
Eric...the width at the fades is 1.170" and its a slow taper from there where its still an inch wide ten inches from the tips then tapers more to the tips which are 3/8"....the handle where I dished it in is just under an inch wide, and its 1 1/8" wide bulbous style below that...there is exactly 7/8" of width at the shelf cut in,and its 1 5/8" deep there at the cut in....also the limbs are slightly trapped(the boo back)
Thanks Cody...I'm to impulsive and unpredictable ;) ...
-
Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!
-
That is a really nice side profile, bow must be a screamer!
-
Thanks guys....yeah its quick alright ;)
-
Sweet!!
-
Thanks guys....yeah its quick alright ;)
I own this bugger now. Got it 2 days ago and finally shot it, been hunting my butt off.
Quick? Thats not the word for it. Its amazingly fast for a natural materials bow. Ive shot none faster and none even close to faster. Amazingly smoove to. I need to grip it and shoot it more this morning so I can sneak out tonite. Im praying my Art of Artchery sourwoods fly good from it. 650 grain hunting arrows from this bow would be almost unfair. It doesnt even compare to a straight up self bow, not close.
Marc/Chris, ya' done reeeeal good fellers. I like your work ..now...Marc...;)

Nice job on that one, Chris. I new I should have bought that blank two years ago. James tried to give it to me for the bow he owed but I took the three piece, wood take-down instead.
-
that is a sweet ,sweet bow . gotta make one like that or TRY anyway
-
Nice bow. Nice color: Fast bow? Like it. :-)
