Guys, if anybody has a stave in the ball park of 60 inches that has some decient reflex in the handle I am all ears. I really want wych elm, but hickory/pecan will work as well. I need to build a 5 curve bow with this and the handle area must be reflexed. And to be even more picky, I cant have much character in this bow. The flatter the back the better but I would consider a crowned back depending on the stave.
I have one osage stave for trade. Will post pics tonight when I get home. I am almost to the point of begging here...

You can reflex the handle with a heat gun. 8)

I have enough troubles reflexing tips, trying something thick as a handle intimidates me honestly. And I would rather build the 5 curve of elm anyway because it would be more correct. I am building the 5 curve bow shown in the movie Brave, as correctly as I can. Thanks for the suggestion though mullet.
Here are pics of the stave offered.

I would happily trade an ash stave... but i would have to heat and reflex it.
heck, If you want it and will pay shipping sure.

It sounds like to me if you don't know how to reduce a stave to heat bend a hand grip area, then you are already way over your head on bow building. I don't want to sound harsh, yea I do, ;), but if you do not know how to bend wood I'd try something easier.
-
Well bud, I just haven't had luck bending wood with heat to an extreme. I know it makes me sound/look like a rank rookie but whatever. Even if I did bend the osage I was using for the stave I still have the problem with it being osage and not a more authentic wood and the stave I was using also had wind shakes. So I'm trying to trade my last dicent stave for something better suited to my purpose.
-
Still no luck getting this one off the ground ,Sleek? Don't you have a deadline on this one?
-
Id recommend you reduce the stave slightly, 1.5 inch thick. Steam for 1-1.5 hours. You need a form, so cut one, also 2 pipe clamps.. clamp to form, make sure both sides align to avoid twist. work fast and it should not even be an issue. If you never do it youll never learn.
-
No real deadline but I feel like I am taking to long. Heck with it I will just make it out of osage. Last stick and something I have never done before. Ick. Oh well I will post a thread on it when I start.

You can do it!
-
Do a build along so I can copy my daughter wanks one ;)

Pity I'm in Canada. I have a Serviceberry stave that has been seasoning for several years that has quite a bit of reflex in the handle
