Title: Home made bandsaw
Post by: osage outlaw on September 13, 2013, 10:30:00 pm
THIS IS NOT MINE.  I DID NOT MAKE IT.

I saw this band saw on craigslist and thought it was rather interesting.  Looks like someone with some ingenuity put this together.  I like the valve handle on the upper guide assembly.  I would love to take a close look at it and watch it run.  I thought you guys would like it.

AND YOU HAVEN'T BOUGHT IT YET???  That's the coolest looking bandsaw I have ever seen!  You would immediately have serious street cred in the woodworking world with that machine!

The idea is he sends me a stave as a generous gift and I return the favor with providing the means for him to get that bandsaw. I'd love to see it be in the pa community.

Thanks, but no thanks fella's.  It isn't close to me at all, and I don't have the room for it.  But I agree with you Sleek.  I would love to see pictures of a bow being roughed out on it.  Maybe we could find a bowyer in the 937 area code to go look at it.

That would be Dayton, OH. How do you search for members by geographic location?

Put an add in the trading post for bowyers in or around Dayton?

And its about 752 miles from me.... darn I want that thing.... Ok, so where do I go find plans?

OK, who has a model T that we can steel some parts from?  Looks like that car provides some important pieces.

Outlaws improvise. That's what makes them such good Bowyers.

Robin Hood was an outlaw.

Wish I had pictures but the man who owned our house before us built a homemade bandsaw that made this one look like a baby. This thing was floor to ceiling and using a car tire to move the blade. It looked like it used some sort of vintage auto gear shifter too.  Very heavy duty. They said he went and looked at an industrial type band saw and then came home and made it.  They left a lot of his hand made tools when we bought the house but they took the bandsaw :'(.

The man who owned the house was an engineer from Ford and was amazingly talented. They left me a (all handmade) wood lathe, table saw, 2 belt sanders, 2 wheel sanders, air compressor, wall grinder, and gave my dad a nice chop saw and drill press. He was a close family/church friend but he died +10 years ago. His widow recently moved to assisted living and the son-in-law helped offer the house to us. I was sad when he took the bandsaw and a heavy duty work table with him. There was also a large metal lathe (not hand made) he offered me but it took up too much space.

You have a grizly! Im evious of you guys that have the high end jets, grizlys, etc. Mines a 12 inch high end crftsman craigs list special i purchased for $100. But im happy with it. My other craigs list specials are a $25 belt and disk sander. A $35.00 grizly spindle sander and a $25 craftsman router and table. I have yet to find a use for the router in this passion of ours. A $25 6" grinder I found in a pawn shop.
