Title: Mustache wax
Post by: skyarrow on September 10, 2013, 12:04:33 pm: Now that my goatee is getting longer its time to make some mustache wax for curling and other shapes :) here is my recipe

For hot humid weather 4/3 ratio
4 parts beeswax 2-3 parts petrolium jelly

For cold weather 4/4 ratio
4 part beeswax and 4 part jelly

You can add any kind of scent you want this last batch was unscented. You can use other kinds of wax like white wax or even gum-aribic

And for the jelly you can use other things like oil soap/liquid soap or even something different to soften the hard wax to your liking i like the jelly since its cheap and easy to get

This last batch i actually found a toilet wax seal on sale at the hardware store it worked great if i remeber most wax seals were beeswax i know they do make a synthetic wax seal also iv never used one of them before

Here are a few pics i melt my mats in a stainless pot on a low heat it works great and you can leave the bulk in the pot for later re filling of the small containers

I like using small playdo containers to hold small batches :) anything will do my main is a small round candy tin

Total cost was 6$ and i made about 1lb of stach wax :)

Mine gets a little unruly, and for the most part, I couldn't care less, but sometimes when I am obligated to appear a little less "mountain man", it would be nice to have something to tame it down and keep it where I put it.

Out of curiosity, I was looking at some commercially made 'stache waxes, and saw that the main ingredients on some of them were beeswax and pine resin. Which also just happens to be the ingredients to pitch glue I made a while back ;D I was thinking about melting some down, and just adding a bit of cocoa butter, or some kind of oil, to make it a bit softer at room temp.
