Howdy Fellas,
Just finished up a new Bowie and wanted to share...
I have been dreaming of finding or building a knife I saw back in the early "80's".
It was the Bowie carried by Sam Elliott in at least two different shows, "The Quick & The Dead" and "The Sackett's".
This is the closest that I've been able to come to that design so far.
Blade is a Full Tang Farrier's Rasp Bowie that I got in trade from the forge of Tallpine (Mr. Dan).
Guard is made from a Farrier's Rasp and also came from Dan's forge.
Thank You Sir, I like your work a Lot! :)
Shed Elk Antler I got in trade some time back.
Pins are German Silver.
The Turquoise is Kingman Green from the Kingman mine in Arizona.
Symbols are a Bear Track, Sign of The Comanche, and Scrolls to hide my wandering drill bit... ::)
And a bit of Latigo leather with artificial sinew and a brass stud.
The design on the sheath is "The Glory of The Maker shining on the Comanche".
Here She is:

Thank You for looking.

That is one fancy pigsticker ;D
-
Fantastic!

That knife is perfect. Great job on it Gus. The handle and sheath work is amazing. And I love farriers rasp blades.
-
Thats a beautiful knife and sheath Gus, love the designs. Real nice !
-
Now that is a knife. 8)
-
Beautiful, all the way around.
-
Thank You Fellas.
She's got some weight behind her.
19 inches over all.
The balance sits 3/4 inch back on the handle.
Heavy enough to take down a good size sapling.
Yet balanced well enough to skin a Squirrel.

Thats a bad mamajama their Texan! Whew...
-
Thank You Pappy.
Thank You Cherokee.
Thank You P.D.
Thank You Dan, it definitely qualifies as "Big Sexy"... at least in my eyes... ;)
Now I just need to get her out into the big woods, and get some blood on the blade.
Other than my own, which she's already tasted. >:D
Looks like I'm gonna have to build at least one more...
My two year old thinks this one is his.
And my four year old has already thanked me for building this knife for him.

Absolutely beautiful! I live big knives!!! You do great work.
-
Very nice work. One question - is there some kind of retaining strap that we are not seeing that latches on to the brass stud?
-
Thank You Fellas...
No Sir Cameroo, this is strictly the Sheath.
Its form fit so the blade is nice and tight when shoved home.
The sheath is setup to be shoved in behind a belt or into a Frog.
There will be a thumb strap on the Frog.
And the Frog will screw down on a Bandolier style shoulder belt.
Set up for a traditional right handed cross draw.
Regards,
-gus
