Here's a really simple bend in the handle hickory bow. Trapped the back because the sister bow took a lot of set. this one's about 1 3/4" after shooting.
66" ntn
+/-40# @ 28"
Really great shooter for the most part except when the humidity is bad :P

i had one like that but i heat treated the poop out if it. hickory loves to be heat treated and will reward you well if done right.
-
You're right, I thought about heat treating it when I started but wasn't sure if it'd overpower the back... Lol, but I think hickory can take just about anything.
-
Ooh nice! It's gonna take me a while to get bendy bows out of my system. Was this made from a stave or a limb? How thin is it at the handle?
-
Nice bend on that one!
Im not shure but i dont think there is a risk for the back in heatreating a hick belly.
It seems so much stronger in tension than in comression to start with and the bow will feel much "snappier" too
-
Nice. I like hickory.
I to heat treat the belly, it works well.
-
I like the bend on that one. 1 3/4" set is not bad. :)
-
PrimitiveTim- This was from a rift sawn board I had. It's 5/8" thick at the handle, 1 1/4" wide at the handle, 1 1/2" at midlimb tapering down to 1/2" tips.
-
I reckon that'll work! I like hickory! Josh
-
Looks great.

Hickory sucks when it's wet, but she'll be sweet when it dries up a bit.
-
Nice job! Looks great!

That's a good looking bow. To reduce set in you next bow, take a look at where this bow took most of its set. It looks to me like it's bendy a little too much at the handle to about 8 to 10" out each limb. The rest of the limbs are hardly bending at all. And from your unstrung picture, it looks like that's were you set occurred. Get the mid 3rd bending more and the handle bending a little less on your next bow and I'll bet you'll have 1" or less set. Oh, and heat temper.
You still got a good bow there.
