Your work is always something else. Wow. I bet that knife with the triangular point would be really useful. Like the design.
-
Nice work. I especially like the one in the lower right hand corner - the corner notch with the long needle-like point. Rick B
-
Awesome work.
-
Excellent work as always! Looks like a few of those could have been fluted! ;)
~HF~
-
Patrick, really like the looks of your blades, got some killer flake scars going on. Bob
-
Fine work. Nice chippin'. You make it look easy.
-
Thanks guys. I've been practicing a lot lately trying to figure out how the old knappers avoided step fractures on the points with really thin edges and weak platforms. The key is having a very smooth preform, carefully ground edges, and lots of support for the flakes (soft leather pad).
-
Nice!
-
good ones Patrick,what's the material?
Roger
-
Very nice! I like them all.
-
Material from all over Texas. Mostly Edwards chert.
-
I love all if them!
-
Thanks! :)
-
Crafty, you have truly outdone yourself and I didn't think it was possible given the high degree of craftsmanship in everything you do. True excellence.
-
Nice little cache ;D nice work Patrick!
Tracy
-
Dang Patrick! I thought you still worked, at least part time. Lol. That is one fine collection as always!!
-
Great stuff and great pics!
That bone handle looks nice.
I'm trying to get a hang of flinkanpping but it seems MUCH harder than woodworking :P I can only admire these pieces.
-
Patrick,
You just keep setting the bar higher and higher. Beautiful points. Would really like to see the science, preforms and platform set up your talking about .
Knapper
-
Wow Patrick, those are beauties. Did you do those with indirect?
George
-
Yes, all with indirect. :) All the notches on all these points were punched out with indirect too.
-
Damn Dude! Those are Sweet!! Is that indirect with copper or antler? Looks a lot like some abo work to me. Great job!! dp
-
Copper indirect for the large flakes and some antler work (on the smaller points) to finish up the tips and sharpen the edges.

Some close-ups...

Hey patrick did you ever make a indirect notching vid on Youtube? I still suck at notching :( dude i made a small flake copper indirect man it works as good as a pressure flaker ;) il have to text you a pic
-
Never get tired of looking at quality work

Sterling, I haven't made one yet on how to punch the notches but you can see my technique in the first 2-1/2 minutes of this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1mXybSeEww
I also have a beginner notching vid here (in case you haven't seen it yet). I deals with pressure but the same technique is used for the steel punch too.

-
Cool il check them out
-
Was that an ice pick in the first vid?
-
Yup. Ice picks are my favorite notching tool.
-
You know ice picks are getting harder and harder to find
Knapper
-
Cool it looks like its shaped different then your pressure notching ice pick
-
Awesome!
-
Knapper, yeah, funny how that works. I started using those cheap kitchen knives from wally-world for trade points and now they don't make them wide enough any more. They used to be 7/8" wide and I would cut off the handle part and shape the blade into a trade point on my bench grinder. Wouldn't surprise me if they stopped carrying those ice picks too...
-
The dollar store should have icepicks ;)
