Title: The use of Antlers and Horns in bows
Post by: matthijsc on August 11, 2013, 07:11:08 pm
He guys,

I am Matthijs and live in the Netherlands.

I was wondering what uses do Antlers and Horns have in bowmaking.
I know you can make nocks from horns but thats about it. I got some lying around and thought: he why not use it in a bow?

Starting on a nice yew stave in a couple days and need some designing ideas!

Matthijs

Thx for the quick reply.
I will do some more searching and post my ideas here, see what guys think about it.
Post a picture of the yew stave tomorrow. There are 3 knots on the lower limb lining up perfectly straight and I was thinking of doing something with that. It maybe sounds stupid but I think it would look kinda cool if I put antlers ending (the points) on each of the knots facing away from the handel. It would be purely cosmetic ofcourse, but what do you think about it?

could be fine if you like how it looks, depending on how you fasten them to the bow. make sure you don't compromise the back. And be conscious of how much mass you're adding to the limbs. It matters.
