Post by: bubby on August 09, 2013, 07:48:36 pm
this is the cigar box guitar I've been building for my oldest Jason, just have to find my soldering gun and solder the wires on the jack, it's fretless meant mostly for slide work , I want to thank halfeye foe the cigar box, thank's Rich, the neck is black walnut finished with tung oil and paste wax, sounds pretty good to gonna make a few more I think, bub(http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/trade%20bow%202013/101_4319_zps12a2b655.jpg) (http://s623.photobucket.com/user/bubncheryl/media/trade%20bow%202013/101_4319_zps12a2b655.jpg.html)(http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/trade%20bow%202013/101_4321_zps748837be.jpg) (http://s623.photobucket.com/user/bubncheryl/media/trade%20bow%202013/101_4321_zps748837be.jpg.html)(http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/trade%20bow%202013/101_4322_zpsa64e1efc.jpg) (http://s623.photobucket.com/user/bubncheryl/media/trade%20bow%202013/101_4322_zpsa64e1efc.jpg.html)(http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/trade%20bow%202013/101_4320_zpse75023f3.jpg) (http://s623.photobucket.com/user/bubncheryl/media/trade%20bow%202013/101_4320_zpse75023f3.jpg.html)

They were actually quite popular in the mid to late thirties, and early forties.  Then a resurgence came around, and they were electrified, and are still used by some artist today.
My Buddy's Grand Son, made one for show and tell.  I had an old busted ovation type guitar, I had thought about fixing, but I gave it to him, and he used the neck and tuning keys from it.
They actually make a pretty neat blues instrument. ;) 8)  Nice job.  Now lets hear some Muddy blues. ;) 8) 8) ;D

Beautiful work! It's funny that, just like wood bows, once you see one you immediately formulate a plan to make one yourself haha.

That is very cool. The cookie tin banjo got me started thinking, now this. I have to do it now. Then something to make a resonator ...

One thing you could do on you next one that I have wanted to try is just fret the cowboy cords.  The fist five.  Everything else bare.  If you needed held figuring spacing just give me a shout.  I miss luthiery sometimes.

koan go on youtube and do a search if you want to build a cone I think you want it more rounded thru the bottom, for $15 you can get a nice pickup at c b gitty online, find an old amp at a yard sale and your set, bed pan guitar sounds pretty bad a$$ to me ;)

Unfortunately i didn't get to smoke them JW :(

Mine is fretted with inlayed finish nails. I've been meaning to make a nice antler bridge instead of the piece of dowel that is there now, i better get on it.
