Title: ash stave

I took the bark off my ash stave and I have some ditches (groves) from bugs just under the bark.
you chase a ring just like anything else ???

The ash I have worked with has very thick rings that are easy to chase. Don't know if this will be the case with yours. Good luck.

Yep, unless it is very shallow then you could back it with rawhide.  :)

I chased a ring today, there is a nice thick one just under that  3/16" +
