This is my first mollie, and boy is it fast. 55-60# @ 29" the last 2" bend in the handle stlightly, levers are 3/4" deep. I still need to add a leather grip but that has to wait till Thursday. Unfortunately this one isn't for me is for a guy at work. Ill add a fulldraw pic when i get home later.

The grip was built up with sheets of cork.

Sweet. Is that padauk on the tips? What wood is that?
-
Could you explain what a "mollie" is? I'm assuming it's something to do with the narrow tips.
A newby thanks you
Don
-
Yup that's paduak alright, i love the stuff, it looks great on everything.
-
Mollie is short for mollegabet. The limbs are usually 60/40 60%working 40% stiff.
-
Dang Bowman,, thats a nice mollie! Ya did good.
-
Thanks Erik :)
-
I think my tillering skills have really improved.
-
Nice work!
-
Thanks Clint
-
Dang, that's a pretty sweet bow! Mollies are not usually my first choice looks-wise, but this one is great, especially at full draw! How long is it?
-
Cool...is that a hickory board? How long is it? ....and a word of caution...try to make the transition of your fades a lil longer, with well rounded edges, and smoother into the handle if its bending some...short and sharp fades into a narrowed bending handle can sometimes break due to the grain running out there....ask me how I know ::) not saying its gonna break, but just a word of constructive criticism for the future...

Thats a fine first attempt! Nice work.
-
Like that! Nice work Sir.

I realalized after i cut the fades that i didnt really like it that much. I didnt know that about the fades into the handle, thanks for the heads up.
-
Oh and yes its a hickory board and 66" long.
-
Nice bow.
How was the difficulty level for the Mollie as apposed to a flat bow. The reason I ask is I have a board that I'm thinking Mollie. Thank you Ed
-
What kind of wood is it? Mollies are a little harder cuz you have a short area under alot of stress. Which is why i heat treated the belly, to make it better in compression, only took 1/4" of set. On a flat bow the stress is distributed accross the whole limb, making it a better design for compression weak woods.

Bowman53; I have an oak board @ 60". Can you change the %, make the working limb a little longer and shorten the static? Ed
-
Very smooth :)

yeah you change the ratio but i would go with pyramid style bow instead, its a better design for red oak. 6" handle and 2" wide fades to 1/2" tips. Bubby did a great board build along ill post it for you.
-
here you go Ed, this is a great build along.

Thank you Bowman53; I am just about done with one like that. However I really like the table saw idea. I have been rasping a lot of wood away... Thanks again and great bow. Ed
-
your welcome, i wish i had a table to use like that too. i also do all wood removal by rasp, except the bow outline, that i do with a jigsaw.
-
i really like this grip it feels really good in the hand.
-
Sweet bow. All around great job 8)
-
Little bit a leather goes a loooong ways eh' Jordan? Im glad your using it up.
-
Oh yeah, for sure. I even used that really thick leather you sent to make a hip quiver lol looks like crap but it turned outgreat functionality wise. Arrows are really quiet in there.
-
Function over finish ANY DAY.
-
i like working with leather, its easy to do, but hard to perfect.
-
Nice job on that one!
-
Yeah, great tiller on that... :)

thanks guys :)

i made this one for a guy at work that shoots modern fg recurves and wheelies. this bow shoots really fast but apparently not faster than his fg recurve.
