so i went to work on an ERC stave, and was no sooner through the sapwood than i realized i seemed not to be through the sapwood >:( i got down to the heartwood, but there's streaks of white sapwood in the purple heartwood. is this normal?
-
Yes, that's normal. I assume that you are either sinew backing or hard backing this stave? Erc heartwood is nearly worthless in tension. Josh

i was planning on a sinew backing, just wanted to know because i haven't worked with it before. thank you!
