After 9 long years I have finally wore my favorite antler billet down past the point of true effectiveness. So it is with sadness and regret that I announce that it has swung it's last swang. :'( I'll probably send it down to suncity center to enjoy it's retirement.. With that being said, I am proud to announce that I have signed a new star athlete for another 10years. He is a 7inch / 7oz Axis stag antler billet. He has already proven his worth with these agatized coral, FL chert and 2 obsidian points this weekend. If he keeps this up, he will have a long future ahead of him in the knapping trade.

Sounds like you lost a old friend but your new one seems to be full of talent, great looking points for your new starter. Bob

OK, I might be down right silly, which I am most of the time; and I'm just putting my toe into the knapping pool, but why not add a handle onto the old billet and keep swing it?

thanks guys I appreciate it. Hedgeapple- I'n not sure that a handle would hold up to the battering it would take and part of what makes an abo billet so good is weight distribution. I've actually decided to make a stumpy knife handle from the old brute, that way it can live on and have a story

I really like that idea....maybe the last blade it made could be set into it.
