Title: 2 feather hunting arrows
Post by: CORIUS on July 06, 2013, 05:43:33 pm
These are some arrows i whipped up for when i go hunting this year. 3 broadheads and 3 blunt tips. I used the south eastern woodlands 2 feather fletch. I made a practice arrow using this fletching and it flies great!! This style fletching is very easy for me and is very effective. The shafts are oak dowels from home depot stained with a cherry stain. Bindings are arti sinew and super glue. I'm not sure what kind of feathers, whatever kind Michael's sells. I made the broadheads out of sheet metal and attached with arti sinew and archers glue. The blunt tips are 7.62 shells also attached with archers glue. These arrows are spined perfectly for my bow and i cant wait to use them for real!!! Thanks for looking!

The feathers are domestic turkey, legal as can be!

I, too, find the color combination eye-catching!  More and more I am getting hot and bothered about two fletch.  I got a dozen to make for this fall and I think two-fers are the way I will go.  Plus, they will really unhinge the effing glass recurve shooters at the stick-and-string shoots this winter!  After all, they are mostly frustrated wheelie shooters, anything home made to them is frightening.

So do I. They fly much better than the 3 feather radial fletch I was trying out.

Check out the Selknam Indians of Terra Del Fuego on the tip of South America. They used two Fletch arrows and shot game up to 100 yards.

Kevin....PS they also shot naked and used body paint...

I Have never hunted with a 3 fletch I made. I only use 2 fletch, though slightly different than what you have. Yours is Cherokee style. Mine, IDK, I just do em like a 3 but tie them on and use only 2. Three is a waiste of material IMHO.

I like the fletches!
I found the oak dowels from HD cost a bit much, and seemed brittle...
so I started making my own from an oak tree my neighbor cut down, using the dowel cutter someone posted here...
