Title: have you ever noticed
Post by: BOWMAN53 on June 29, 2013, 05:08:07 pm
That we go through fads here lol. Everyone is making snake skin backed bows and before that was the molly/holmgaard phase. Whats next?  >:D

I hope its white wood bows. Most (more than 50%) of the bows I see on here are Osage.
White wood warbows... that would be sweet.

I like the skins cuz it eye candy. The tips too. We could do without either and have but it sure makes a nice bow look even nicer. I have yet to make my molly but its coming someday. I'm thinking elm molly.   Danny

I've noticed that as well.  Also spikes in posting bows.  I've noticed spikes in posts on other forums as well.

The message board fads don't seem to have an effect on me. I've got a wide variety of bow flavors going at any one time. I use osage a lot, but I think I work a pretty good mix...

Currently working:
Straight osage selfbow
Straight black locust selfbow
Straight hickory selfbow
Recurved osage selfbow
Straight yew selfbow
Yew English longbow 70-75 lb
Bamboo backed osage tri-lam w/considerable d/r
D/r hybrid black cherry limbs and bocote handle (glass bow)
Super snakey osage selfbow w/copperhead skins
Bamboo/osage/horn composite
Not to mention the stack of staves I'm debarking

Hmmm, I better go get to work.

I plan my bows months in advance most of the time.  The last two snake skinned bows I posted recently were started during the winter.  I think a lot of it is just coincidence.

Hunting season is around the corner--its arrow/shooting/scouting/fitness time.  Bow making starts up in Oct.

Trust me I would LOVE to be in the woods now. The only thing you'll be scouting around here is a way to get the seed ticks outa places the sun will never see :o

Jon, once those ticks have had their fill they drop right off, so just leave them alone.  Now get out there.    :)

Since I don't have access to osage I am a white wood/ locust guy myself ;) I would like a piece of osage but I just cannot justify paying money for it when I have log truck loads right around my house :)
