Title: Snake or fish skin trade value.
Post by: ionicmuffin on June 16, 2013, 05:36:41 pm
I'm looking to find out what kind of trade I would need to make to acquire skins of fish or snakes. I'd be looking for something around 30 inches if and when I get a trade. Would I need to trade staves or would something else work as well?

Something else can work, its like anything,,what are you WILLING to trade, typically of equal value wrks, but here ,, seems like we try to outdo the other fella, i traded for arrow shafts, got more back than i expected, cause you dont want to do a bad trade, helps if ya know what your asking for is worth, good luck. ;)

When I make a trade I don't consider value. If it is good for you and good for me its a deal!  ;)

Muffin, street value/monetary value means very little on this site.  It' all about what you want and what the other person wants.  My first trade on this site was adolescent chicken wing feathers for goose feather. Well, of course the goose feathers are better than chicken feathers.  But, the guy had never tried chicken feathers and he had a lot of goose feathers.

A trade I'm doing now is a twenty month old seasoned 49" osage stave for a maple board.  Street value of each maple board $10, osage stave $30-50.  BUT, for the life of me I can't find maple boards around my area.  So, I'm extremely happy with this trade.  I'm hoping to get a couple backing strips from the maple board.  And I'm going to send 2 staves instead of just one.

Good point. I'll see if I can get a trade going then.

Ion:  I'm sure that I can rustle up a 30" snake skin.  Likely of the Prairie Rattler variety.  What can you offer?  I can always use shafting, feathers, string material.  Riser wood for laminated bows.  Arrow making tools, supplies, a cabin in the woods?  Well, maybe I'm stretching it there.  Come up with something and I'll consider it.

Rawhide looks pretty cool when stained and doubles as a backing.  Cheap too.  Just thought I'd mention it.
