I have knapped this, but it seems pretty difficult for this novice. I call it my rainbow
rock. Also I don't remember how long ago I picked it up or from where. It had to
have been a while though. Any help who be appreciated.
-
I did get this out of it though.
-
kinda looks like jasper. It might be a little better heat treated.
-
Where did you pick it up? Or do you know where it came from?
Sure does look like jasper.
-
Can't say for sure. Could have picked it up anywhere along side the road or creek by the road from Virginia to Indiana or Tenn to Virginia. I tried to get another spaul off this and it only seems to flake good in one direction only length not width. I'll try to post that pic.

Quot.. "Only seems to flake good in one direction"
That's the give away. It's Georga jasper looks just like it too.
It's a very rear rock. I've been told its very hard to find. Your might only find 1 or 2 pieces in any given area and then not find anouther piece.
I think I have a photo of a Ross blade I made from the stuff a few years ago. Ill try to dig it up.

Also could be Tecovas Jasper. GA jasper comes in differnt colors but the piece I worked looked a lot like what you got there. I distinctly remember the green crust.
Sorry I can't find the pic maybe someone else can find it ;)

This is the Ross hop well i made from GA Jasper that i picked up from the north GA knapp in back in 2011 from Woody Blackwell.
