Here's an osage self bow i just finished up I named 'October' for the month I made it in. I knew from the start that it would prove to be a very special piece of wood. It has good rings, it doesn't have a single knot!, and held on to its original reflex like a champ. 63" ntn, an inch and a quarter wide at the fades and pulls 60#s at 28". I put on wenge overlays, backed it with Brazos River snake skins, and added a tortoise shell strike plate inlay, which is a first for me. I really like it. 'November', this bow's sister split, is coming along a nicely and also managed to grow knot free. Thats to come...

Man! You make some beautiful bows! :o Osage is really pretty, and not having any knots is very rare. Still waiting for full draw...... ;)

That is a real beauty Dan! You do real nice work, always a treat to look at your bows. I have started to use your spiral type of grips on my bows and love it, really keeps your hand in the right spot. I am a really big fan of using the turtle scale for a plate because it is so darn thin and looks cool to. Nice job on that bow and can't wait to see "November".

Nice bow Dan. What kind of snake skin is that?
-
Now that's a beauty!
Must be pretty fast to :)
-
WOW, she sure is pretty, The skin backing is very distinctive along with the the shell its one of a kind.
Can't wait to see the full draw. Looks like October was a good amonth for you ;D
-
SWEET!
What kind of snakeskins are they? Also, can you send the money shot (full draw)?
Really nice job.
-
Yep, like the others - no Knots? Don't happen very often :). Good lookin bow (Brazos river snakeskins?) where are you?
-
Thanks guys.
The Brazos River is in Texas. I'm from IL. however...I picked these up at Mojam a few years ago.

Ahh, your in IL - I know the Brazos well, at least the part I walk for rocks. Thought I'd found another victim in my area ;D.
-
They don't get much nicer than that.
-
Sweet, what ya use for the rest and strike? Ideal target and landscape, Maple leaves? I miss the East.
-
Another beauty Dan! ;) 8) Looking forward to seeing sister. Pat
-
Looks great, Dan. 8) It's been awhile since we've seen a selfbow from you.
-
Thanks yall.
Ya, I've been hearing the call of the self bow as of late.
Yes sir, nothin' better then a hay bail and a fall leaf to shoot sticks at. The rest is two pieces of sadle leather glues together and the strike plate is inlayed tortiose shell.

She's a real beauty. Great job.

A great bow. I notice it looks like you keep a pretty long area between the fades in the handle area. Is there a strategy there?

Wow - with a spectacular bow such as your, I'll bet you'd like to include a full draw picture so it can be included in November's Self Bow of the Month list. - OldBow

snedeker: All in effort to create clean flowing lines, thats pretty much the only reason. I'm an art major in school and worked in more conventional art forms prior to becoming completely addicted to bow making and find myself constantly trying to juggle form and function.
I will find someone to take a drawn shot for yall I spose...
