Title: DR Osage
Post by: PeteC on May 31, 2013, 05:46:30 pm
I have not posted a bow in many months,so when I got Cipriano's message I figured I'd put one up. This bow was built from a deflexed stave I cut about 3 years ago.It was fairly straight although it had one spot where the grain ran out both left and right out of a slight whoop-d-doo.I had the stave nearly tillered and a splinter lifted in that spot. I set it aside and started another project, but kept looking at the stave when at my shop.I liked the shape of it so much I decided to try to save it. I put  a "serving string /super glue " patch on the bad spot and continued tillering.I had first planned to tiller this bow to 28",but decided to stop at 26" to be safe.I tillered around the patch as much as I dared, then removed the patch, scraped the area where the patch was, then re-apply the patch.I ended up doing that 5 times till I was satisfied with the tiller.I probably shot 600-700 arrows through it with no problem or change, then finished it with 7 coats of tru-oil. It is 53# @26" ,It is 65" tip to tip, is 1 1/4" at it's widest, tapering to 3/8" tips, with osage overlays , arrow shelf and a cane grip. Like other bows of this design,it is super smooth, very forgiving, yet pushes 600+ gr. arrows fast enough for a pass-thru. Thanks,   God bless

Nice bow man, I was wondering about the wrap, taking it off, scraping, re-wrapping and tillering, question answered :)

i really like that design on your built in arrow shelf. :)
its just good to know HOW a selfbow CAN be repaired, just the same as a natural bowstring can be repaired.
