Howdy, here's my latest bow (also arrows and quiver!)!
I made it for my older sister and its based off of the silver bow utilized in the actual hunger games part of the Hunger Games movie.
I looked at a pictures of the bow and estimated the dimensions off of the height of the actress. ;)
Here's the result!
Specs:
Approximately 35lbs at 26" (a bit closer to 40lbs)
60" long
1 5/8" most of the limb tapering to 3/8"
Slightly recurved tips (first time really trying steaming some recurves by hand, it was a bit harder than I thought it would be so they didn't turn out as robust as I'd prefer)
Its also just about center shot.
Regular aluminum arrows painted silver (they shot tennis ball sized groups at 7-10 yards so I'm happy :) )
Quiver is constructed from PVC, painted silver and black, and the strap is a seat belt from a car.
Pictures!

SWEET! 8)

Very cool

Thanks Guys!
I've seen some copies of the 'district 12 bow' as well but I wanted something a little more flashy I guess.
Also, I used silver acrylic paint and a few coats of linseed oil for the finished product. :)

I think the recurves on the real thing were more severe, and it was fiberglass.
BTW nice bow! I like it.
-
Yeah, I tried for steeper recurves but I'm still fairly new at the whole steam bending thing so I didn't get quite curve as much as I wanted.
I believe the original was also fiberglass or plastic and it had some cuts and steeper angles that I didn't really like and the handle was excessively long so changed those to allow more working limb and for more working wood.
The original also had very little draw weight, which is why the actress could hold it back for such long periods of time. I wanted this to be semi-realistic and have a draw weight that could actually be both high enough to be used in combat, but also low enough to be used by beginners (like those that would just be learning how to use it for the HG).
I put a good bit of thought into it. :)

Nice job, and very creative! I like the whole outfit

nice job on that outfit and good pics to.

I love the HG and I love this bow. All I would say is in this picture I would have put some berrys in there to symbolize the nightlock berries. SS

Cool! The whole set is well done! Josh

This is the 1st you have made? If so, you are a born craftsman with bows & arrows, IMHO. From what I see, you worked it well. Looks evenly carved, consistent bend all the way. I have never made a bow, have made 1 arrow from a dowel & recycled feathers from an old one. Arrows look great and so does quiver.

Nice job on the bow. And good of you to make it for your sister. Alls I ever did was pester mine.
