Title: Look what came in the post!
Post by: Squirrelslayer on May 23, 2013, 08:00:17 pm
ok admit it, you thought this was a trade bow thread. sorry to disapoint but i was ruled out by the three month rule, maybe next year. anyway back on topic, ive joined the darkside of archery  :o :o yup this compound came in the post along with 34 aluminium arrows, 2 carbons and a stand so i took her down the range tonight to try her out. now this bow is 50#@0" and i think the let off is 6#@28" the complete oposite to a longbow/ recurve it was hard to get used to but after about 2 hours i mannaged to hit the target. anyway here are some pics. That is the ugliest thing I've seen on this forum. Not crazy about the bow either... Too many wheels.

I'm confused.  You took the time to post a thread with pictures about a bow that nobody on here will be that interested in, but you say you don't have time to post pictures of your finished hand crafted longbow that everybody was so impressed by, and expressed interest in seeing the finished thing.  Odd.

Well squirrel, in my personal opinion i feel the same way about compounds, however, i wouldn't get upset if someone chooses to use one, i just would make fun on them lol. Like my priest who uses a 4 wheeler to hunt lol. he says it gauntness him a good shot farther out, but i say "sissy bow" "unmanly" "bow for those with not skill" but in reality it isn't a terrible thing to practice with a compound for a while, not everybody is into traditional bows, plus its easier to hold for long periods of time. In my personal opinion i find it unfair to hunt with anything other than a hand manufactured weapon unless you must hunt for food, and if that's the case then a gun is usually cheaper or more efficient in the long run. Just my thoughts on compounds. You have your reasons and i wont question them, but just remember, there is so much more pride in what you've done by your hands than by machine.

yeah, i agree with that i just wanted to give it a try. my aim is to have one compound, one recurve, one R/D bow and as many longbows as i can make. gotta give all of them a try.

Wills, the pics will be coming, i wanted to take the longbow to the club but could not fit it in the car with all my compound stuff. i will have some pics ASAP. SS

Hope you don't think I was jumping down your neck with my comment.  Just seemed strange to prioritise a compound over a wooden longbow on a forum dedicated to making wooden bows.  Glad you're enjoying the new bow.

I was actually looking forward to seeing Squirrel's finished bow pics with the acrylic tips. Your form looks pretty good , maybe this is your new calling. I'll be more impressed with your ELB than your compound. Have fun with what you have though. Each to his own. I was confused with the not being able to see finished bow pics until after June 14th?!? Did it maybe break on you?

No the ELB is still in one piece (surprisingly) I was aloud a day off from my studys today because this arrived in the mail.  I thought I posted pics of the finished acrylic nocks and handle wrap?  SS

Believe it or not, you can shoot both.
Your form needs help, but now you can't blame a nine on anything but yourself.

However, you're right, I was expecting something related to primitive archery. maybe a tool or material to twist a string for your new longbow...
but not a precision mechanically advantaged stick launcher.  Mods will take care of it, of course, but try to keep things organised.

Like most home schooled people that I have been around, with few exceptions, are attention seekers.  With no ability to mengal with others because of limited and secluded mixing with others.  All about me.  Knowing this a primitive archer site, you post the other bows on here without even a consideration of what others think, but what I want to do instead.  You have proved beyond doubt that you don't care what others think or have any respect for people offering you help and suggestions.  You just keep digging your self into a deeper hole, and one that for me, you will never dig your self out of.

Have some respect boy.  It will get you farther than anything in life.

Fair question but a bit harsh.

Don't let em get you down SS. I shoot a compound too and it is plenty of a challenge for someone just starting. This may not be the best place to post it up but everyone should be used to that by now. lol.

2 Hours to hit the target????? Those things are point and shoot.

yeah i know but i took a while to get used to the release and also messing around with the sight. i also wrecked an arrow after it got stuck in a wooden pannel 1" thick it went an inch through it which means my arrow is now 2" shorter  :o but i have lots more aluminium arrows so it's not to bad. SS

I get it Ss. Your a kid with a new toy and you want to show it off. Nothing wrong with that ,everyone has showed off their toys from trucks to guns and everything in between. I owned one once, didn't like it cause when the accuracy was off I never knew if it was me or the sight or rest or cam timing or any number of other things. With a simple stick and string once its tuned I know it's me. On a side note when do we get to see the finished bow you built

thanks for understanding, i know what you mean. i can pick up a longbow and within 10 mins hit my mark but with this compound i was all over the place. SS

I understand too, cause  like to show off my new stuff. But next time instead of originally posting this in the bows section, and pissing a bunch of people off, post it in the correct section to begin with and only the people who care will respond. That way you can avoid some of these harsh marks people are giving you.

Dude, cool bow, but its usually better to shoot a bow WITHOUT training wheels :o :o :o :o
I cannot shoot a compound anymore, my accuracy is horrid...

I have two stories for you SS

1. I was shooting my recurve with boo arrows, and my friend was shooting his new compound with sights-wheels-levels-lasers and a half dozen other toys I didn't recognize. We were both shooting spot on and so things got competitive and after a few equally matched competitions we decided to switch bows... I took his bow, ignored all the toys, drew it with my fingers (not his release) and started shooting ok groups...  He took my bow and couldn't hit the broadside of a barn
Lesson: Take away the toys and WE are better

2. One time I was bored so I took the 60lb compound that mom got at a garage sale and shot it at my target, I missed but the arrow went REALLY FAST and hit a rock and sent sparks flying
Lesson: fast things can be cool... I guess the first story had a better lesson ::)

yes i reallise that, the guy who was shooting his recurve next to me was using his sight but when i asked to use it i ignored it because he had it set for him and i wouldn't wan't to go changing his settings, so instead i pulled it back  so the nock was at my nose, i was shooting 3 under and i aimed the arrow just above the target and sure enough got a group in the red.  he said "i guese some of us just have it and some of us don't" i can also shoot left handed but only with really light weight bows 20-30#. im acctually not to keen on the compound and i would probably only use it for it's pure power and speed. SS

Lol, there is an old saying. Its not the qauntity or quality of tools that make the man, its what you can do with what you have.
Case in point I have read many posts about primitive hunters and shooters that really impress me, this is what's it about.. ;)
