Title: My First Trade Bow, Vinemaple.
Post by: Bryce on May 21, 2013, 08:03:57 pm
well this is my very first PA Bow trade.
much like the rest of us on the west coast i made a Vinemaple bow.
i really wanted the recipient to love this bow and use it often. i read, during the stalking phase of this trade that my recipient likes 'simple' bows. so i tried to do just that.
i tried to make it look like it was made 50 yrs ago, left some scrapper marks in it and did a simple elk leather strap wrap.
was a tricky tiller for the most part.
top limp has a deflexed bump, and the bottom has a reflex kink.
had to make a repair just below the upper tip overlay where i nicked it with the band saw :/
heat treated and hits like a Hammer.
i hope you like it!

62"NTN just under 1 1/2" wide. took 1/2 set/stringfollow whatever you call it.
Burgundy dye. Ebony over purple-heart tips

Apparently you researched well, but failed to notice I do NOT like purple.  Start over, please.  Or better yet, just send me that 26 page sinew backed yew thingy.   >:D

Love that full draw shot.  Looks like that thing is edging over the 7/8ths broke limit!  Man, it's going all out on that bend, but knowing you tillered it I would trust it implicitly.

Thats a fine looking bow Bryce and by the tiller I'd suspect it cast a darn hard arrow too. I'd like that one if it showed up here, we
don't have any vinemaple growing around our midwest cornfields. :(

That's the beauty of the selfbow, Dan K., you just put the arrow on the other side, or flip the bow over, and shoot it............!

Pearly- I came close to fallen off of that ol grandaddy Hackberry limb!  It wasn't my idea to climb up there.  My daughter begged me to get up there so she could get a clear shot of the bow.  Apparently she doesn't realize how shaky and decrepit I'm getting!  Especially when 8 feet off the ground.

Bryce- I assume that you get those from Carson?  I need to order some choke cherry bark from him in the near future.  If you happen to remember the spine on those, I might just order some shaft as well.  Once again,  thank you very much!  Josh

Yep I get all my shafts from Echo, they're full length 60-65# with a (i think) 160grn. Point....
Yeah he's got some good cherry bark ;)
