Title: Super Short Elm
Post by: wildman on May 15, 2013, 10:47:27 pm
This is an Elm stave I messed up and cut way short. Its 49"ntn about 2"wide going to 1 1/4 at the nocks. Its a lefty for my wife pulling around 37#@ 26". I backed it with whitetail back sinew awhile back and added my top secret antimoisture paint >:D
The tiller looks a lil off seeing it up here,it was hard for me to get the tiller, and may not be done. All input will be taken to good use. It is a quick lil shooter and is not taking much set so far.

Looks like the outter 3rd on the upper limb could be bending a little more to me. And the knocks being one and quarter inches is kind of wide. But I'm still learning, but I do love me some short bows! But if it shoots well and your wife likes it then to me it really doesn't matter.

Thans guys, upper limb is what I was not happy with yet. I kept it wide hoping it would help it live.

A little more bend in the middle 1/3 of top limb and she should be good.Man your wife has some good form, wished mine was that good. :)

I'd narrow those tips way down

I've not had the best luck with elm in the past. Would narrowing the tips more make a noticeable improvement in performance vs longevity of the bow? I did scrape top limb Lil more got her working better. After putting sinew on it I really do not want to botch it up.

I would start a taper 12" from each tip. Go to 5/8" wide tips from that point. It will bend a bit more, which it needs. And it will get rid of a few ounces you dont need. The drawn bow will look better and of course shoot much better.

Tips narrowed to 5/8th and a lil heat on the belly. Def a lil more zip to it. Thanks again guys,I would have left it wide much better bow now.

Super short to you , average length for me ! Nice bow . You should slap on some snakeskin on the back
