Hello...thought I would share my latest.I had this short piece of hickory I carved into a snakey bow, then I heat treated, then sinewed.Turned out pretty cool and shoots real sweet!tillers far from perfect though! The tips are maple, bacote and black cherry.54" long,52#@26" of draw. Thanks for looking hammertime(http://i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd464/jeffreyakolste/2013-05-13065940_zps4346e62f.jpg)

Was that a straight grained stave that you cut out snakey?
-
great looking bow ,but be careful,,extreme grain runoff can explode without warning,,
-
It looks cool, but as the others said, be carefull with it. :)
-
Hickory is super mean wood to take that for even one full draw.
-
oh man this one is crazy. good job on that one hammertime!
-
This boy ain't right in the head! Amazing skill to pull that off with the grain violations! Congrats!
-
that's cool, i still think i'd wear a helmet :o ;)
I've thought about taking a heat gun to an osage stave and making it snakey like that.
-
the bottom limb looks the best...very creative bow...but like you say, the tiller needs some work...
-
are the outer half of the limbs bending at all?
Nice bow!!!
-
I've got a pair of natural sister snaky hickory bows, but if you cut that snake in you better get that tiller dead nuts.I can attest to that hickory can break at full draw.It is very tough stuff as your picture is showing.
-
Thanks guys- and I know its weird or crazy but I have 50 or so shots through it...it is sinewed to protect the back,,some was natural some just created,,so far so good,It has a natural sight window which makes shooting a pleasure.Hickory is amazing stuff!teak oil finish! If it holds together I will apply a snake skin...we will see-Hammertime

Nice work, tiller on top needs so attention like has been said. :) Hickory is tough that's for sure but Lucky or good, sinew or not you are fortunate that it has held together :) Hope it holds for you. :-\ If it was mine I wouldn't skin it just yet. :)

-
Love to see that at a 3D shoot. Turn wheelie bow heads for sure hehehe. I like it! Hope it hangs in there. It's just screaming to put snake skins on it.
-
Thanks Ohma and dmc...Thats what i was thinking when I started the project in january,,,what the hey this is just for the fun of it right?!-Hammertime
