Here she is ,ready to go!
Red Elm (board)
64" NTN
50#@28"
2-1/2" wide at the fades
Inspired by the Heraldry used for a friend's motorcycle club . Double headed Eagle , Greek flag (shield). Old Greek coin inlaid in the leather strike plate to give it a little extra nostalgia. Carved some chequering on the plate a little (a nod to the shotgun that was traded for the bow) Carved and painted on the belly of the handle. The Eagle head nocks were overlaid with Pau Amarillo before being carved and the the rest of the tips were stained with yellow dye stain to match the natural colour of the overlays. The rest of the bow was stained with a walnut oil stain, faded into the tips. This gives the bow a bit of life, as the colour changes as you move the bow around from the center looking towards the tips the bow looks brown almost to the end. As you rotate it and look from the tips ,the golden colour travels towards the belly. That was a pleasent surprise! The handle was painted black and faded into the stain. Several topcoats of oil based varnish over the paint gives it a vintage feel. Blue leather stitched handle wrap and a few arrows ,crested and fletched to match , round out the package. He's a good friend and hunting buddy . And he's been patiently waiting since last fall. I'm trying to get him out shooting this week , so hopefully I'll have some pics of him and his new bow soon. Here's a few to get you going. (http://)

Looks top notch. What does the unstrung profile look like?

I'll try to get some more pics up tonight. I gave the bow to my friend today. He hasn't shot a bow for about 7-8 years , so I wasn't sure how he'd make out. Fist sized group at 18yds, right off the bat. I think I was more impressed than he was. He seems to be quite happy with it, and it fits him perfectly.
RPS -I did get some unstrung pics before sending it off. I'll post tonight or tomorrow.
Thanks for all the nice compliments guys. The greatest one was the smile on his face!

Well done! Love it!

Full draw from the happy camper. And (Haha) He kept calling it art ,and hung it on his wall. I wonder what his wife is going to say about that. ???

RPS - here's the profile pics. It took about 1-1/4 " of set. No heat treating after tiller and no reflex introduced . It likely would have taken less if I trapped the back. I roughed out another at the same time from the same board, so I'll try some different things to see if I can tweak it some. It was shooting about 155-160 on the chrono with a 26" draw and a 500 gr arrow, so I'm pretty pleased with performance.

Thanks Chris. I think I'm about due for a few simple ones. My favourite ones are the nice straight forward ones like "druid" makes. I hope my trade bow recipient doesn't feel let down if I give him something like that.

Ultra cool, the time it must have taken to do all the artwork, and the tillering! That's a beaut, I'm sure the recipient of any bow with a tiller like that and shooting 155+ will be :)

excellent. 8)

Far too kind with all of the nice comments ,Guys. Thank you. The smile on my friends face is what it all boils down to.

that's the most creative knock iv'e seen (and ive seen alot made from horn on ELB's) i wouldn't shoot that for fear of breaking something. great artwork. SS

No worries of the nock breaking. If you look close , there is very little carved away for the string. It's all smoke and mirrors. When carving high relief you leave vulnerable bits reinforced. The inside of the mouth is actually quite stout . the reinforcing bit is painted black so as to make it "disappear" I have braced it many times with the push pull method with full confidence. I've even clumsily whacked the nocks around in the shop a few times before all was said and done. The Pau Amarillo is fairly hard and durable.I'm not saying it couldn't break, but with reasonable care there shouldn't be a problem(doesn't need to braced by virgin lambs born under the sign of Venus )
