I don't live in an area where flint naturally occurs, but I did find a few small crushed pieces of mook jasper in the gravel on my driveway. I found a piece about as big around as a quarter, and really thick I normaly would never even atemp a piece like this one was, I didn't even heat treat it. But I decided nothing was impossible, and grabbed my tools. Several hinges, step fractures, and crushed edges later, this is what came out. Billy would be proud! lol

Nice job great color in that stone.

Cool little point. Do you live in Australia? that's where Mook comes from.
-
Mullet, no I don't. I live in northeast Texas. I guess I have my rock types mixed up ;D. I didn't know mook comes from Aus'. I know it's jasper, but I guess it's another kind. What type of jasper comes from the south?

This is what the raw stuff looks like

Hey Scallorn, Im pretty sure thats Citronelle gravel. At least thats what I call it. Im in northeast Texas too and lots of the local artifacts are made from that material.
-
If you google Citronelle gravel you can find a pretty cool video of a guy knapping some of it. Some of it will work well untreated some needs to be heat treated and some is absolutely useless. The hard part is finding good sized pieces.

Nice looking stone. I know a few guys who like to knapp that stuff!

Wow, I was really off. I guess I should research my rock some more before I go naming it! All I know is that I found it in my driveway, it knaps, and it's free. The problem is, those pieces in the picture are the largest ones I found. I need some big ones! ;D

Nice looking point scallorn

I have some of it. Anyone want some?
-
looks just like the cobbles I got from Northwest Alabama. Nice jasper if it is similar. After heat treating breaks real clean and has a nice rich red color. heat some up!

Squirrelslinger, I have don't have any knappable rock around here, except whats in my driveway. So I'll take any good rock I can get lol
Twistedlimbs, I took some golf ball sized pieces of it, and I have them cooking right now :)
