Title: Going for a little bigger.
Post by: Tower on April 29, 2013, 03:56:34 pm
Lately I've been trying to make my points just a wee bit bigger. This first picture is how big some of these chert nodules are. I spall These out trying to produce a blade at the core.

I spalled & thinned one of these down to this blade, then heated it .

After heating , I began the percussion stages, & this is how it came out.

Now I'm ready for pressure flaking. Not sure if I want to just straighten it up ,or try for a pedernales Or some other point. I will post the results.    Tower

Here's the finished point. It's fairly narrow, so I decieded to keep the base straight.

Tower may I make a  suggestion?  Nice blade by the way.. You can nibble a little off basal area for a Scottsbluff or make a killer Dalton or heck make the biggest badest cahokia ..or u can leave it too..Great work Don the bigger stuff is real addicting..almost makes u not want to make a bird point again.
