Title: Backing for Black Walnut
Post by: NTProf on April 27, 2013, 08:14:10 pm
I have access to some nice Black Walnut boards, but the grain is not quite good enough for a self-bow. Would maple make a good backing, or hickory?

Both should be fine... maple would be best.

I really want to build a maple backed black walnut bow.  It would be sooo pretty.  All I need is a maple backing strip and a good piece of BW.  haha

Maple is the better chioce.
Sinew is good too, makes a great combo. Snappy and light
