Title: Lawn Mower Blades
Post by: PrimitiveTim on April 27, 2013, 02:59:20 pm
Anyone make anything from them?  My dad was about to throw some away but I stopped him cause I though maybe some of you fellas could make a knife or something out of them.  Let me know and we can set up a trade.

My experience with them is there soft and not real good steel.   But I'm just talking about blades on craftsman type mowers.

Someone at my club made a draw knife from one. Used a file to sharpen it and then wrapped some cord for the handles. SS

Ill take some. They are a useable steel if you hot-flatten and point it, then cold-forge the edges. The older ones I have experiance with are medium carbon. It work hardens if cold forged. then grind edges, your done.
I can make you a short sword-style thing. Sort of like a short roman Gladius. Send me 2, you'll get back one(it'll pay labor costs:P)
or we can work out a trade.

TV glass, slings, old files- those things are huge, and some elm staves....
I also have... trade points of mild steel.
