Are dark streaks in hickory staves anything to worry about? They look like little streaks of decay to me. I haven't ever worked hickory before, so I thought I would see what you guys that know the stuff had to say.

Nope nothing to worry about, I've made good bows with streaks like that.

Looks like mineral stain to me buddy. I have seen it in some of my staves but I have never had problems with it. What sort of area did you get the wood from?

That will look great under 10 coats of Tru oil!!!!!!!!

That aint no crap Russ....ol' Carson the west coaster will be begging us for more of our firewood when he gets done sealing her.

I see lots of hickory here in tn like that ,,I think mineral streaks,, take more that that to stop hickory ;)
