linen fabric from a thrift store- look for pants or dresses that are 100% linen.

Jute cord/fiber. you can get more than enough cord to back a bow for approx $1 at your nearest convince store.

Another one-
old jeans. not the best, but it will hold down a splinter.

I've bought old silk ties for a $1 at thrift shops.  Brown paper bags, old denim jeans, raw hide and such from pet stores.

I've bought old silk ties for a $1 at thrift shops.  Brown paper bags, old denim jeans, raw hide and such from pet stores.

I wondered about using ties, but thought that since they are cut on the bias, making them stretchy in the long axis, they wouldn't  work well. Am I off base with this thinking?
