I finally started on my red elm... I don't get much time to work on bows, so when I do I go gung-ho :) As of right now it is 62 TtT and 1.75" wide from the fades to 10" out and then tapering to 1/2". I will narrow it down a little more later

It's bending evenly at floor tiller. I'm shooting for around #30 at 26", this one is going to be for a co-workers wife.

Looks nice so far

Here it is, #30 @ 26" - Osage overlays and arrow rest inlay

This was also my first time using this -

It has beeswas, orange oil and carnauba wax. Worked really well.
-
Looks really sweet. I like your idea for the arrow rest and the wax finish. 8)

Nice bow Duck. Elm has a nice color with a good polish on it.Where did you find that finish at if you don't mind saying?
-
Thanks guys :)
I actually found it at Home Depot near the stain/finishes.
-
Beautiful bow
-
Sweet duck :)
-
Thanks.
Here's a better pic of how the grain looks with the wax

And I'm glad to say that not a single power tool touched this bow :)
-
That turned out good. Elm is a great wood that is often ignored...and no power tools. Nice job.
-
Very nice. Very clean work. It looks great.
-
Nice bow ,duck! You had me going for a minute there, as I am working on my first Red Elm as well. I put some nock overlays on at the begginning of the week and am in the process of working them down.My tip overlays are Pao Amarillo (Not sure what the latin name is ) and I thought "oh great ,now it just looks like I stole someone else's idea" . Don't worry , it will look a bit different ;) .How does that saying go? .....Great minds, something ,something. Any way ,great job , looks fantastic!
-
Good. power tools will ruin a good bow ! Always hand tools !
-
Looks nice! I like how you chased rings to get the heartwood to show.
-
nice bow. the handle looks like it would fit the hand very well. The Howard's is a great finish. I've used it for years. I give all my bows a couple coats a year
-
Nice bow Duck and that wax finish shows off the grain nicely.
-
That's a very nice example of an elm bow.I'm sure it pulls like buttta.
-
Thanks guys.
I think the Howards Feed-N-Wax is going to be my go to finish for wood bows now. It's super easy to apply and smells great :)
I've put close to 100 arrows through it so far and it shoots alright. The funny part is I don't think the person it's going to will ever shoot it... ::)
