Title: Pretty Rock
Post by: gstoneberg on March 21, 2013, 11:17:11 pm
I'm not sure who brought this rock to Burlington, maybe Don? It is the prettiest stone I've ever worked.  Sadly, I didn't take any pictures of the spall.  It had a big crack through the middle so I ended up with a piece not much larger than this point and pretty thick.  I fought hard to keep from losing length and width and was very happy to get a point.  I sent it home with Sasquatch and he was kind enough to send pictures of it back to me.

I have no idea what kind of rock it is.

What is it?  It looks a lot like some stone I bought from an indoor flee market a year or two ago.  Stuff heat treaded wonderfully.

George, I believe there was a chunk or two of Mook that I picked up from Patrick a couple months ago.

Ah, that makes sense. Sure was nice, both to look at and to knapp. Thanks for the kind words.

I'm back at Burlington and have already made one point. Miss Ellen has somebody coming over for me to knapp with. Come on up if you have the time tomorrow and the weather holds.

Found a chunk if it again.  Definitely untreated mookite.  The stuff heat treats like crazy.  I wish I had tried it before I started chipping, it was a good sized piece.  Thanks again Outbackbob48 for the correction and source for more.  Might just have to get a hold of him after moving.

Staying in Maine.  There's only one knap-in here and it's past.  No one was selling rock.  But my mentor, Dick Doyle Jr. does attend Letchworth, so I'm sure if I gave him some cash I could get him to buy some for me.
