Title: Another Tree ID???
Post by: okie64 on March 13, 2013, 12:46:56 am
This tree is the first one to bloom its flowers every spring. It has its flowers before the bradford pears (they should be in full bloom in the next week or so). Its the only one Ive ever seen around here and I would like to know what species it is. Its in my neighbourhood and I drive by it every day but this is the only time of year I really notice it. Anybody got any idea???

My Star Magnolia has a bad habbit of blooming too soon almost every year so we only get to enjoy the blooms every 3 or 4 years. This year ain't one.  :(

Okie, these cherries are cultavated varieties fropm Japan and pretty common in the nursery trade. There are a few different ones. I have a Yoshino cherry like the ones along the Mall in Washington,DC.  The ones in Washington were a gift to America from the Emporer of Japan years ago.

Interesting stuff Pat. I may make a trip to the nursery this weekend to see if I can find one to plant in my yard. The bradford pears are popping out now and its supposed to get up to 80 tomorrow. Bout time to go cut some whitewoods!!! :D
