Title: Found a couple snakes in my woodpile
Post by: KShip85 on March 11, 2013, 01:53:10 pm
Began splitting some logs today and this is what the first one had in it.  Not as snakey as some on here but I believe there is some character in them.  This has me hopeful for the rest of the pile.

Maybe you can get a cool center shot arrow pass with one of those staves Kip :)

Looks like fun. But, where do ya start :oI have a piece of elm that will split like that I am sure. Its got some knots to it too. I will see this fall if I can make it into a cool bow or increase my fire wood store for the winter ::)

Not really sure where to start.  Debark, remove sapwood and seal I guess.  Hopefully that will give me a clearer look at the curves of these.  I ended up getting almost all my small logs split today and ended up with a good number of staves, including a couple salvage ones from dead pieces that had been on the ground and are full of checks bug damage and character.  Hope there is a bow in them somewhere.  Might try and split some bigger logs tomorrow.
