Title: Type of Finish for rawhide.
Post by: munkinstein on March 09, 2013, 10:59:04 am
I'm making my first bow, a red-oak flat bow and I have backed it with rawhide.  I'm wondering what kind of finish works well on this produce.  It is white/translucent at the moment which won't work with hunting as you can imagine.

I don't do anything different with rawhide. I just finish it with the same product as the wood... usually a polyurathane. The nice thing about rawhide is, you can paint it, draw on it, etc. to finish it if you want.

Ah thanks a lot fella.  I was worried that using the same finish might do something untoward to the rawhide.  This alleviates my concerns.
