I'm working on building myself a new grinder, and pretty much have everything I need now.............except the motor. I do have an old treadmill I considered robbing one out of, but I'd rather have a decent 1-1.5 hp AC motor. Needs to be 110-115v. I can offer the knife shown in ths thread: http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,38118.0.html (http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,38118.0.html)

Oh man! I'd just about take apart my furnace to get a chance at that knife!
-
Let me see what I can work up for you.....any specific rpm needed?
-
Not really, the slower the better but I'll be using step pulleys to adjust it.
-
I have an old sears table saw with a electir motor on it if your interested
-
Jonathan. I have an old Sears joiner that you can have the motor if you take the whole thing. ;) I'm not sure what size motor but I can check. You will have to come and get it.

I built mine using a bench grinder, and dimmer switch. One side is the belt sander the other side has a big flapper wheel on it.

If you get a chance to get the specs from the motor that would be great, Pat. I appreciate it.

I have an electric weed eater motor... idk if that's worth anything to you?
-
I can't find a tag on thre motor but it is 7" in diameter and about 5" long. I'd guess 1/2hp to 3/4hp. I'll try to get a better look and see if I can find an info tag. The joiner is 4' long and weighs a ton.

I did some research and it seems that 1/2 hp was the most common motor on those, Pat. I think I'm going to hold out and see what James is able to hunt up, a 1/2 hp motor will bog down pretty easily when doing heavy grinding. I appreciate the offer, though. If I had extra space I'd come get it just to have.

I have a 3/4 hp and a 1 hp The 1 hp woudl probably be best I thought about using it to make a belt sander but the rpm is alittle high for me.. The 3/4 is on a pump for a hot tub.. If the other guy can not get you one let me know

Do you happen to know the specs on it, Eddie?
-
Been searching for you....I have found about 10 different motors. Will check the specs on them tomorrow at work. Will let you know something tomorrow night.
-
Sounds good, James.

Bumping it up one last time.
