Title: I would appreciate your opinion on black ash
Post by: mnviking on March 05, 2013, 07:32:59 pm
i have been doing some research and discovered that black ash is lighter than white ash and supposedly is more flexible.

any experience with either would be appreciated.

I have some curly ash that is really attractive

mn,
I'ved used black ash for both bows and is my favorite for arrow shafts. I like it alot. I have had no issues with my short bendy's from it. I will say that if you want really high weight it might not be the best bet, but 50/55 and under and it's pretty good stuff. But that's just one guy'd opinion.

I've read that people avoided it for tool handles because it was more brittle than white or green ash. Light weight makes it good for arrow shafts though.
