Title: A few wingbone turkey calls
Post by: madcrow on February 24, 2013, 01:43:42 am
Here are a few I made recently.  The short calls are chicken bones, but they work really good.  I still need to do some decorating and maybe a little scrimshaw on a few of them.

Nice yelppers. I've been making them for 28 years. Called in more birds than I can count. Hey make a great display for that old long beard too.

You've been turning out a lot of great stuff lately.  Those are some great calls.  Are they difficult to get sounding right?

Thanks guys.  Adam, the only difficulty working the call is the operator.  It just takes a little practice.

I watched a trumpet/coronet player almost kill himself trying to "play" one of these.  I finally took pity and showed him how they worked.  Hehehe, and I thought his face was red BEFORE I told him!

Question for all you call makers.  do you remove all the honey combed bone on the end of the larger bone?

Nice calls with some nice decoration on them.

THanks.  I remove it.  I tried one with it and it muffled the sound.

I know I'm very fond of the one I own, quite a bit of sentiment attached.

They are always better when the bones come from a turkey you got for yourself in fair chase.
