As the story goes bub said if I tried to make a horse bow he would supply the horse hair. I accepted that challenge, but never even thought about a super short horse type bow before that day. When the package arrived it not only had horse hair in it, but some buffalo fur as well.....too cool bub. This bow is 45" ntn, 1 1/4" wide max, pulls 42# @ 25". It has three layers of sinew and hide glue. The skins are actually a single skin. I had one big ol' WDB laying around with no match in sight. I split it down the center and thought the triangles it formed looked NA like, so I stuck with them. The grip is from a muskrat I tanned last year and the string silencers are buffalo hair from bub, as is the tassel from his horse hair. This little turd flings a mean arrow and could easily take a whitetail. I was thinking about using it as my swap bow, but that's cheating.... >:D The full draw pic is dead nutz 25". You can see a faint yellow stripe right on top of my finger. Enjoy and as always criticism welcome.

Dang that turned out great. That is a heck of a lot of bend in that full draw picture. Skins, fur, handle, everything looks perfect on that bow. I bet she's a mean little critter.
-
look at that thing bend! very nice little shooter!
but i need to warn you you have a packrat nest in the corner of your workshop you better do something about.
he'll steal ya blind... he might actually make a good grip on a bow

Rob the hair bundle was glued together at one end. I drilled a shallow hole and glued it in.

Seriously cool. Only to be shot with clean hands though...
-
That is an amazing little bow. I've been working on a horse bow on and off for 6 months now. You've inspired me to get back on it.
-
Great lookin' bow PD ! Better look out if Matt gets His hands on it - You know how He likes those short sinewed bows >:D. Bob
-
damn son that bow is saweet, really came out nice chris, the brace and full draw are outstanding, never know it's your first shorty, and yeah, exactly like that
-
Thanks for all the kind words guys. I enjoyed this build, it was fun and nerve wracking at the same time.
I can see now why 26" didnt feel good when I pulled it that far, my string angle goes beyond 45 degrees and the bow "stacks" as a result. 25" is actually darn near full draw, my elbow is a tad high.
Thanks for the hair and fur bub! You da' man!
-
Nice job, Chris! She looks sweet!! :)
-
That is one nice deer slayer you got there. I like your idea with splitting the WDB. I'll have to try that one of these days. Great job!
-
;D Nice Bow looks like one of my bows. should be a screamer. >:D

-
Good job Chris. That would look right at home on my rack.
-
What a little rocket launcher very nice indeed. Lucky man.
-
Thanks everybody! Quite a few of you will be able to fling some sticks outta it at the Classic. Hunt me down. I will have some special length arrows and a quiver made by then. Thanks again! It was another fun one.
-
Pearly, I'll stand in line to fling an arrow from that beauty. Heck, you could probably sell tickets like a carnival. 3 shots for a dollar. You could cover your gas cost. ;)
-
For you Dave? .75 cents buddy...and I'll give you 5 shots. I cant even get myself to sell a bow, I sure as sugar couldnt charge a nickel to shoot one!
-
Great job. Those shorties are absolutley amazing. If that is not an ambush turkey or deer bow I don't know what is. Danny
