Well I have been trying to get the hang of making horn nocks lately, so I decided to practice on this osage longbow (here is a link to the bow I am talking about: http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php?topic=33603.0 ). I have to thank you Dell for showing me how you do your nocks, as that was very helpful. I also have to thank you Pat B for sharing how you do your built up leather handles, as this bow really needed it, and that was very helpful to me as well. Thank ya guys, ;D. I don't have any pictures right now to show this I think, but this bow is kinda funky, and has a crazy cross section, which really needed a built up handle to be comfortable in the hand. I cut the bow down a couple inches to 64 3/4" NTN. (Ok, I screwed up the fitting of the bottom nock a couple times, but at least a inch or two were on purpose, ;)). I tillered it back down to 45# @ 29" also. The handle is just some random leather from tandys, arrow pass is calf hair. String is 3 ply linen as always. I tried to copy some of chris boyton's victorian style nocks. The top is probably too big. The bottom had a hidden check in it, which is the reason it is so small. The bow has 1/4" positive tiller, in the style of a john strunk longbow... which looks a bit weird to me for a longbow to have such a tiller, but it shoots and draws good, so I went with it. Ok, I promise I will stop posting this stupid bow now. :)

Hey knothead! I guess I would go so far as to say I'd be happy to take that bow off your hands, I guess, if I had to.
Now if you would pardon me while I go find a large towel to wipe my chin.

Dang! :o That's a sweet looking bow all around! That tiller is lovely.
-
Sweet :)
-
Absolutely gorgeous tiller! You have my full respect!
-
You use a hole puch to get thse lacing in there?
-
oh wow that one is so cool :)

Thank ya everybody. Ionicmuffin, I guarantee you I do not deserve anybodys respect, ;D. Prarie Bowyer, I used an awl to punch the holes. An actual hole punch would probably be better I guess. I have been on the look out for one of those ones that punches two holes at once, so you can always get your holes evenly spaced, but I haven't been able to find one yet.

Nice job on that rework, for sure. If that is your first try on horn tips, you did a fine job!!

You coaxed a winner out that one for sure TMK. Very nice.
