Here is a bow that I recently built for target shooting. It is bamboo backed lemonwood with an Osage powerlam and handle overlay. The limb design is a classic reflex deflex. The tips are African blackwood and the handle wrap is dyed elk hide. The bow is 64” ntn and pulls a very comfortable 40# @ 27”. Limb width is 1 3/8” at the fades tapering evenly to 7/16” at the tips. The finish is Tru-Oil which I rubbed out with steel wool and pumice. It’s nothing special, just a nice little bow to roam around with when I don’t feel like shooting my heavy-weight hunting bows.

-
Very nice bet she shoots sweet :D
-
Looks very sleek, and shiny, with all the curves in the right places. Primitve Archery Art.
-
As always Gordon, masterfull craftsmanship.
-
Beautiful work Gordon. I think your attention to detail is amazing. I wish I had half the talent that you do.
-
Looks like a sweet little blacktail bow for stalkign thru those coastal forests to me!! BEautiful Gordon, I bet theres zero handshock.
-
the personification of sweet Gordon. beautiful.
-
THANK YOU for posting pictures.... Amazing work Gordon! Something for me to strive towards!!!!!!
Justin

Not sure what's prettier that graceful rested profile or the arch at full draw. Love a d/r bow with such a fine profile that it looks as good unstrung as it does bending. Very nice Gordon. :)
Greg
-
Perfection! Thank you for sharing this Gordon. Your work is always such an inspiration :)
-
Thank you Bub, I appreciate the nice comment.
K-hat, these light weight bows are smooth and easy to draw - I'm getting soft in my old age. Thank you.
Thank you Ozzy, this bow is very sweet to shoot.
Thank you Bow 101. I wouldn't go so far as calling this one art, but I try to make all my bows presentable - they just feel like they shoot better that way.
Thank you for the compliment Jon.
Thank you Lemos. These laminated bows are not that difficult to put together. You just got to be competent with power tools. Now putting out a really good self bow - that takes some talent. And there is an abundance of that on this site!
cvarcher, you could use a bow like this to hunt blacktail, but I like to carry a heavier bow for that in case I run into some elk.
Thank you Eric.
Thank you Justin. I decided to go ahead and post this one after your prompting.
Hey Greg, thank you for the compliment. I do like the looks of an RD profile.
Thank you Will, what nice thing to say.
-
Gordon.......gosh! That's a beauty for sure. Love the lemonwood.
-
Wish my somethin special looked as good as your nothin special! She's a beaut Gordon. Bet she's smooth and sweet ;)
Exactly what I was thinking.
-
Love those graceful and refined lines. The beauty lies in the simplicity. Something to strive for!
-
I love your style. Your attention to detail, classic influence, and smooth profiles sure make them more than "nothing special." :)
-
As usual, Gordon, really nice job. That bend sure is purdy!! ;)
-
Man that is a nice bow. that would be my trophy bow if i made it! these 'nothing special' bows really separate you pros from us noobs ;D
-
Man gordon, how in the world do you get your leather handles so clean and perfect? The arrow shelf always messes me up a bit, I can never get the measurement right on the first try, and I always gotta trim a bit, check it, trim a bit, check it, etc... They still never come out as clean looking as yours though. Beautiful work. Nice photography skills too. :)
-
Very nice bow Gordon, Love the tips. Tiller looks great.
-
Very nice.
You are an inspiration.
Keith
-
Don't ya just love it when Gordon says "It's nothing special"
Beautifully done, gracefull bow!!! Very, very nice !!!
-
Super nice bow, as usual! Where did you get the lemonwood?
-
It looks great, if you don't mind could you show me a close up picture of your power lam
-
Hey Bryce, thank you!
Thank you Arrowind.
Thank you for the compliment lostarrow.
I appreciate the compliment Trekker.
I'm pleased that you enjoy the bend lesken.
Thank you for your nice words Zion.
Thank you for the compliment Toomanyknots. Like you I do have to make several measurements and cuts before I get the size just right. Using a bit of contact cement where the shelf goes helps a great deal.
Thank you Keenan. That means a lot coming from you. No one makes nicer tips than you.
Thank you for the compliment Keith.
Thank you Coaster. Compared to the incredible bows that I see commonly posted on this forum, this bow is not particularly special. But I do appreciate your compliment.
Thank you Adb. I got the lemonwood from a local hardwood dealer. I have to tell you for making laminated bows, lemonwood is a dream to work with if you can find it.
Thank you Darwin. Here is a better picture of the powerlam. You can click on the picture to zoom in.

Elegant beauty Gordon. Your finish as always is exceptional.
Jon
-
That's a Gordon bow alright! Looks great my friend
-
Another nice one as usual. None of you bows are "just plain". outstanding detail.
-
Looked like it was shooting pretty smooth today Gordon.
How many arrows did you put through it 1000?!!! :o
-
Thank you for the compliment Jon.
Thank you misslemaster. It's interesting how we all develop our own recognizable style after a while.
Thank you mullet. I appreciate the nice words.
Thank you Bryce. It was good seeing you, Weylin, and Steve at the range today. I didn't put a lot of arrows through the bow today because I don't have the proper spined arrows - I'll have some ready to go next week.
-
It looks great thanks for the extra picture, could you explain to me how a power lam influences performance?
-
Beautiful bow Gordon, that should be a sweet shooter. :)
Pappy
-
Darwin, a powerlam doesn't affect performance. It is simply a technique for building up the riser so that the handle overlay doesn't get overstressed and delaminate.
Thank you Pappy, it is a nice change from my heavy weight bows.
-
thats a beauty.
-
Great bow! beautiful work on details and clean tiller.
I admire your work, Gordon
-
That makes sense i couldn't see how it would impact the performance, so would it be fair to say "power" lam is a bit of a misnomer as it doesn't add any power?
-
Nothing Special? I think your picture must be in the dictionary beside the word "modesty"
-
Beautiful bow there Gordon. Those subtle curves are just gorgeous. I want to try one like it this spring/summer. It looks like the deflex goes about 60% out the limbs before the reflex begins. Is that about right?
-
Thank you Danny.
Thank you for the compliment Simson. I have been admiring your bows also.
Darwin. The term "Powerlam" certainly seems like a misnomer to me. I'm guessing the term was coined by someone with a background in sales and marketing ;D
Thank you Gopher, I really appreciate your nice words.
Thank you for the compliment hedgeapple. Reflex in the lower limb starts at about 50% and at about 60% in the upper limb as you noted. I never really thought about it, but that is a result of making the limbs asymetrical without adjusting my form. Doesn't seem to hurt anything though.
-
Thanks for the info, Gordon
-
:o wow ! I have to agree with everybody ...... Very nice .... inspires me to pay more attention to the details :)
-
Beautiful bow Gordon. You always do such exceptional work. Is there a source now for Lemonwood?
-
That looks like a real pleasant shooter there. Not to bad on the eyes either ;) Looking forward to seeing that one at the next get together.
-
Gordon, I always enjoy your work and this one is no exception. Clean and tidy presentation, flawless tiller and masterfully finished. Well done sir! Josh
-
Gordon is the Chip Foose of bow building. ;)
-
Thank you Country.
Thank you jpitts. A local (Portland OR) hardwood store occasionally has some boards in stock.
Hey Carson, thanks. I plan on bringing it to the Yamhill 3D shoot. I hope to see you there.
Thank you for the compliment Josh.
I didn't know who Chip Foose was so I looked him up. That's funny. Thank you Tom.
-
You sir have an amazing ability To blend the proper amount of color and contrast ... And then Turn it into functional art. It's always a pleasure To view Your work!
You said that a power lam Is there to build up to keep to handle from popping off How does that differ from putting a strip from tip to tip ?
I'm trying to make laminated I can't seem to get them tillerd my hats off to you
-
As usual Gordon, a simple masterpiece. I really enjoy seeing your work. Such an inspiration.
-
What a nice compliment Soy. Thank you. A tip to tip middle lamination by itself will not prevent the handle from being overstressed. The lamination has to taper from the fades to the handle for it to provide any sort of protection.
Thank you stringstretcher, I very much appreciate the compliment.
-
Thanks ;)
-
Lovely bow. Those core lams I find hard to fabricate at the feather.
-
Amazing craftsmanship as usual. Whenever you post a bow I dang near start salivating. They are never a dissappointment. You sir are a true artisan.
-
Good to hear Gordon. I can't wait to see it at the "1st Annual Shot through the Heart St. Valentines Shoot" ;D
