well I had these two l;imbs that were going to be a three pc td, my big sander took a dump and I don't want to try and do the riser without it sooo, i'm gonna try and make it a two pc, got a pc of 1" pipe, had to glue on a handle pc to get a fade and just a bit more length, i'll plug the holes and maybe put a horn overlay in that area, only the top hole will be above the pipe, should have 25 1/2" of working limb, limbs are hickory and I may change the taper to pyramid, Bub(http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/103_4085.jpg)

That could turn out pretty cool, but watch out. This is a dangerous path to go down :P metal on a bow  it should be cool nonetheless.

i'm not worried about the metal billy, just to cheap to buy the manufactured one's
-
Be interesting how it works out. I'm always up for something different. I may try a 3 piece next as I have a couple riser's sitting around, or a Reflex Deflex with 2 lams.
-
Can't wait to see the out come >:D
-
Ok. You've got my attention. Please show steps of how your fitting them together , please ;) always wanting to learn new stuff.

OK, Bub. Let's see this pipe-handle takedown build along!!
-
You lost me Bub? I cant figger how your going to connect them.
-
Small word of caution : If that is galvanised pipe, and you do any work to it that would cause fumes from heating, the fumes can kill you in a matter of a day or two. If you need to modify it , black gas pipe might be safer alternative. Just be safe is all I'm saying.

I did one similar to this about five years ago with an osage longbow. I used gas pipe. I heated it just enough to give it a few whacks on the anvil and created an oval shape out of it. It worked okay, but the added mass in the grip really took some getting used to. Looking forward to see how you finish this one out. :)

here's some pics , one shows where I had to add wood for the socket, the rest just show it ruffed out and fitted with the handle, I have to fill the holes from where I was making the 3 pc and I may do an overlay there, still have to work the limb taper and start tillering, my new bellotta farriors rasp made short work on the spindles, good tool's = good results ;D(http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/103_4087_zps507b576c.jpg)

looking good, did you flatten the handle at all to make it oval or are you leaving it round?
-
the steel sleeve adds 8oz, which seems like a lot, but it doesn't feel bad at all, we'll see how it balances out when it's done, it's just under 60" ttt, Bub
-
I just left it round gopher
-
Ok so another fine job bubby. Couple questions wouldn't the wood swell ocasionally causing a very tight fit.? And how about wear on the wooden end piece.?
-
I'm not done yet bow101 ::) ;D
-
Looking good bub!
-

That's coming along nicely! Great idea with the pipe. I've always wanted to try making a take down and this seems like a great way to do it.

Hey Bubby,
Something got me thinking about this post today. Do you have any pics of the finished product? Any new developments or advice?
Thank you for sharing your work,

Looking good Bub..: By the way what are the dowels there for, They for extra holding for the maple.? ???
-
the dowels are to fill those holes in the limbs, they were originally gonna be a 3 pc takedown, bows been on the back burner for a while, i'm gonna take the sleeve and reduce it from the center both ways to give it a more comfy grip and reduce a little weight, got to get it on my father-in-laws lathe
