Quite a while back Katt asked if I would like to trade bows. Of course I said yes but I was building 2 trade bows(last year) and I didn't know when I would get to it. Katt said OK and that was that...or so I thought. A short while later a cool little osage bow with snake skin backing and a horse hair tassle showed up on my door step. I contacted Katt to thank him for the bow but had to tell him I hadn't started one for him. He had no problem with that and said to send it whenever I got around to making it.
Well, I finally had a chance to work on this bow here and there over the last few months and I'm nearing the end. She will be 61"t/t, a little over 1" wide at the fades and with a deep, round belly. She will pull between 50# - 60#@26" when done and have cow horn tip overlays. I'm not sure if or how I will dress her up when the time comes but I still have about 10# to take off her and get the tiller squared away.
Heres a few pics...

-
Thanks Kip. Me too! ;)
-
Heck of a good start Pat. Thats what at tiller should look like.
-
this is gonna be a good one, especially when they tillering starts off good like that.
-
Lookn good Pat, can't wait to see her done :)
-
might i suggest a indian mosaic pattern something to break up the plainness on the back of it.
-
Pat, it sure is good seeing your dusty shop being put to use again. That bow is looking good.
-
I think that a lot of the time the prettiest bows have nice handle wraps and a nice finish, there are some pretty backings out there too, backed or unbacked that will make one pretty bow.

Thanks everyone. It feels good to get back in the shop. Its been too long.
Pearlie, I think the outer 1/3 of the right limb tip looks a bit stiff.
I've glued on cow horn tip overlays and packed out the back of the handle with leather. I'll shape the tips and handle overlay tomorrow(I hope! ::) ) then get the excess weight off and see how she shoots.

Pat, I love seeing your bows. They're like looking hot girl in a little black dress: simple, elegant and makes your heart race a little. Nice job.
-
>:D Im Honored that im good enough to have a Bow made by Pat. ;D

Some are sleek, like a Cheetah. This one looks more like a Jaguar.

My thoughts exactly, Bob 8)
Katt, this style is a little different from what I usually build but is one I've wanted to build for a while. My original thoughts were Pope and Young longbows but shorter. Narrow and deep seems to take less osage to get weight and osage can take the rounded belly...and short enough for horseback. ;)
Damn Hedge, now I gotta go take a cold shower! ;)

Yes Sir!
I'll be watching and learning... :)

Pat, how thick is it at the handle and out of the fades? I've been wanting to try a round belly bow for awhile, but always chicken out and go back to my comfort zone flat belly bow.
-
sweet, let the healing and therapy begin. Nice bow.

I'll give it to you that this is a pretty bow and I like the thin sleek look but this is no where near what I feel when I see a hot girl in a little black dress. lol :o

Not to hijack Pats thread, but I have some recent experience regarding this. The last three bows of osage I finished all had round bellies, thats a first for me. Personally? I couldnt tell a difference between them and the 50 bows before them that had flat bellies. I think its easier to reduce down and tiller when rounded. Set was as to be expected with flat or round.

Hedge, the handle is 1 1/4" thick and the limb at the fade is 3/4"

Looking very nice Pat.....great work as always.

Congratulations Jesse! ;)
Great looking bow Pat.

OK, I got her done and all dolled up! ;D She is 61 1/2"t/t, pulls 56#@26" has hemp cordage handle wrap set in epoxy with floppy rest and cow horn tip overlays. Since this is going to WildKatt I though a leopard skin pattern would be appropriate. ;)

love it Pat, she's a real beauty! That leopard turned out real nice. very clean lines and fine craftmanship (of course).
So what's going on with that nock profile, don't think i've seen one look like that on a longbow? Did you leave some meat for string grooves?
-
Spot on Pat.... that's a pretty bend there... Katt's gonna love it ;)
-
k-hat, I always leave the tips a little thicker so I can narrow then. I could probably take some of that off but its too late now. ;D
Thanks Kip.
-
Another great bow Pat. You are a bow making machine. Must be that new Stave Master? Congrats on another great bow man.
-
Looks good! I'll have to try those paper prints one day
-
That's a dandy Pat, real nice bow!
