have you got a favouirate bow? post it here for all to see!
-
Well it's hard to choose but I guess I would say "miss November" would be my favorite. If for no other reason than I won bow of the year for 2011 with it :)

I would say this is my favorite bow I have built. It's not my best performer or shooter, but it is very unique and was a real challenge. Besides the obvious hole in the limb, the wood was of poor quality. My confidence went way up after I made it.

My favorite is one I cut of elm. It is my third bow I ever built and has served me these last 3 years very well. I cut the tree down with my K-Bar military fighting/survival knife, and made the bow start to finish with it. Not even sand paper touched it. I used the tip of my steel toed combat boots as the for to recurve the tips. This old elm bow has literally been my crutch to lean on when I fell from a tree on year while hunting. I hit the deck, heard my ankle pop, and used the bow to help me get the 1/4 mile out the woods. The heck of it all is, a huge doe was in the field where I parked the truck. SOB! haha, 1/4 mile into the woods, fallin from trees, and the deer are hangin out by the truck.
Here it is before I put the recurves in. I always tiller a bow out before doing those.

And after working on the recurves,

Then the way it is now

I love this bow, and would run into a burning building to get it. It is like my best friend. I know I can count on this bow for the rest of my life.
-
Nice looking bunch of bows. I try and build most of mine to shoot about the same for me,don't really have a favorite,I love them all or I don't keep them around long.
Alot of my favorites I got talked out of also. ;) ;D

This is one of the nicest I've made.
Self Yew ELB, made from English Yew which I harvested myself. 40# ladies bow with silver rivet in the top nock.
Particularly dark Yew, absolute pig to make as it needed a lot of heat straightening.
My shooting fave' is 'Twister' Self Yew primitive, tillered to be smooth and sweet despite the twist. Point and hit... well mosty O:)
Del
-
wow. really nice bows guys. i really like that one with the masive hole in the middle. i guess if you follow the grain and tiller carfully it will work really well. nice ELB Del
-
Here's another one of my favorites ;)

You have to be more specific..... favorite???
What day of the week???
Some sweet bows!!!
-
Do we have to pick just one? :(
I have 5 favorites. I think it was Pearl Drums who said in another tread, "from my cold dead hands". Heres my 5 but if I had to choose just one it would likely be the middle one an osage bow 57"ntn & 57# of hard hitting durable killing power. If I were a better shooter
it would have easily taken down a big racked Illinois 10 point I missed right after it killed the doe in the last pic. ;D
I'll likely never part with any of these 5 though.
Greg
-
Will, your bows are amazing!
What about 'Hot Lips'? ... that is one of my all time favorite bows ever posted on this site.
-
Damn Greg.....that osage is textbook tiller...I can stare at her curve allllll day long.....or 5 seconds before my pants get wet ;)
-
This is gonna be good...

-
Man Greg I'm with Blackhawk, that tiller is stunning as is your finish work! And since you mentioned her... Heres hot lips :) I really do have a soft spot for her as well ;)

Wish I had a favorite to post, but none of mine can compare to any of those beauties
-
Hahaha, somehow, I doubt that BH.....
-
Badly Bent i love your bow styles. Screams Eastern woodlands bow to me. Simple, beautiful, and functional. What more could you want
-
Ah come on Blackhawk you got some super fine bows, probably too many great ones to pick a favorite. What about those one and
two eyed mollies? that d/r yew? all those character osages? Bet you can't pick just one can ya.
-
WOW! will h. did you heat bend the limbs like that?
-
Mine is probably the hackberry sinewed static I built for a friend of mine. I only shot it a handful of times, it was smooooooth....someday Ill make my own.
-
I've only made a handful of bows, but this is my favorite. Many ups and downs, painted, stripped, snake skinned. I think she's just how she belongs now. Shoots like a champ too. :)

Did you pull the burmese python out of the everglades yourself or did someone's pet snake die?

Wow coaster, that yew bow really shows that you don't need to bother chasing a ring on yew... Makes for a cool looking back, that's for sure. This Osage shorty was my favorite until it lifted a small splinter at a pin knot after 5,000 shots or so. It was fast as hell.

-
Man great bunch of bows here! Love that one you posted pearly! Don't remember seein it before...
Squirrel- I did flip the tips with a heat gun but all the left to right was natural snakey grain ;)
-
Sweet speedster Jon... don't know about all yew but that staves rings were tissue thin and so many per inch I couldn't count them!!!! Did make for a very cool back .....
-
PrimitiveTim - Bought it on eBay. I'm hoping that they weren't ill gotten.
-
My first priorities with bows is how they shoot and hunt; if they happen to look good or takedown or something else then all the better.
I have better looking bows then this but none that are as smooth and handy as this sinewed osage elk bow.

I am in total awh of your guys work. It just totally amazes me what some can do with a piece of wood.
-
fav bow ive made is this little sinew backed osage. my first and only, so far, sinew backed bow
just shoots so nice and gives me "that feeling" when i pick it up
(http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/ab346/sadiejane9/bowmaking/DSCN0471.jpg)
fav bow i live with
this little bow made for me by gun doc outta a hundred year old osage post
(http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/ab346/sadiejane9/bowmaking/DSCN1857.jpg)
tho i do have to say, the very first bow i made is still the one that gives me pause and keeps me building
(http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/ab346/sadiejane9/bowmaking/DSCN73077.jpg)
sure some fine bows on this thread.
that's the other thing that keeps me building,
totally inspired every time i come to pa by the bows you guys make
-
Wow, threads like this really show the talent on here.
My fav bow that i would take over any other bow would have to be my apple longbow. Its so fun to shoot and tho it may be symple it sure shoots well.
-
Del, I love that fantastic ELB! Excellent and timeless.
Hard to pick a favorite, isn't it? I would take bits and pieces from dozens of bows and combine them for the "favorite." Often, however, my favorite bows end up being the ones I learned the most from, that demand my patience, and that I can't wait to put my maker's mark on. This one ranks high on my list. It's an osage static recurve with osage/rosewood brush nocks and rattler backing that came in at 50#28".

I think this is my favourite. Certainly one I dont intend to let go.
